At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I loved this show.. I’m sick it was canceled. I like Trauma too.
I am MAD! Bring Mercy back!!!! It was a good show. If you are not going to bring it back at least tape an hour series finale and wrap up the show for the viewers!!!!!!!!!!!
It is would be interesting to know how networks determine how many viewers there actually are. Do they include if it was DVR’d? Because I believe now of days people don’t watch shows when they air, they watch them with DVR’s and online. This was a great show. I am a BIG Grey’s Anatomy fan and I believe Grey’s is on it’s way out. This show I considered my next Grey’s. It’s too bad it didn’t catch on. It left off with a great cliffhanger and I was looking forward to a new season. I loved Michelle Trachenburg’s character on… Read more »
I loved this show. Finally a show where nurses are shown with the intellegence they deserve. I used to like House but where are the nurses who do all the real work? Doctors don’t sit with patients and hold their hand and cry with the families, nurses do. Please bring it back, the acting was great.
best medical shows by far in my opinion better than ER and i loved that show…bring them back – and oh yea they should combine season two and three and play 2 episodes a week that would bring in more viewers.
NO! i want it back. i want to know what happenes next. i really enjoyed this show!!
I, loved Mercy please bring it back to NBC.
I LOVED THE SHOW. It definately needs to come back. Please bring it back for another season.
I wanted to see how it ended!!!
I REALLY loved it! I don’t have time to watch TV when the shows are on, so I have TW cable and you could watch Mercy & Trauma OnDemand. I would watch early in the morning the day after they aired. I just LOVED both shows. I am a medical professional and they both portrayed real stuff and made it all believable. I hope they somehow can bring them both back. By the way, I guess I don’t fit the demographic, because I am 52yo. I have watch medical shows from back in the day and I think these two… Read more »

Loved the show, loved the characters, do not want it to end. You must come back and clean up that ending – it is not a respectable ending. Please come back
