At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

The best show on TV canceled! Please do not scratch your head and wonder why people are pulling away from TV similar in size to Catholics who have left the church!
Shame on you!
I am bummed 🙁 I just found out it has been cancelled. I won’t really watch any of the other lame NBC shows accept maybe a few. Last year I was a huge NBC fan now I won’t even waste my time….
I liked Mercy because I could relate to it and it was entertaining. I’m pissed
i cant believe mercy got cancelled! I LOVED that show!…They need to bring it back!!!!!!
I am older than the intended audience and am very disappointed Mercy is being cancelled. The story lines and characters were interesting. Often I wonder who exactly is being polled!
This was one of the best shows on TV last season. I will miss it. I never can figure out what the TV executives are thinking.
I am old enough to remember how low “MASH” ratings were in the begining….but unlike the current adminstration of NBC and MERCY, MASH had programers that not only recognized it’s creative genius but had the guts to stick by it through I believe three rather low rated seasons. MERCY was one of the uncharacteristicly intelligent, sensitive shows on primetime T.V., and one of the very few I watched. I believe if NBC would actually exhibit the integrity to committ themselves to programs that they themselves acknowledge as both creative and of substance………..Maybe the veiwing public would show loyalty to NBC.… Read more »
So sad 🙁
It’s very difficult these days to watch shows live with random work shifts, not wanting to pay for cable, etc. When I first heard about this show I wanted to watch it and never had a chance to catch up on hulu until after the show was already declared not coming back for another season. Is it so bad that we just want an actual ending to a show? If they know ratings aren’t too hot why do they leave us wanting more?
Iam very disappointed that their will not be a season 2. NBC, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
I am soooooooo disappointed that Mercy was cancelled!!!!!
and they wonder why there is a slow demo…because people don’t want to watch a series that they don’t know will survive until a second season, I got into both Trauma and Mercy and once again am disappointed that they won’t continue, they should run the first seson on repeats before they come out with a second season and maybe people will get interested, but who am I to say, I just watch the programs, I am not in an office getting paid more than I am worth to make worthless decisions, I know, let’s put garbage programs on and… Read more »
I absolutely loved this show. PLEASE do I more to make it a real series FINALE-It left us all hanging and was such a wonderful session finale, but NOT a series finale!!! I wish more people would have caught on to this show. It was a show that I really looked forward to watching. 🙁
I am so sorry to see this show go. I watch very little TV and Mercy is one of two shows I watch. I really cannot believe that it was canceled. I dont think that it had a fair chance. It was awesome with great story line and excellent actors. Ofcourse i am a nurse so I could understand the show on a personal level. With nursing booming I think that it would have done just fine given a chance.
Why did u do that that was an awesome shoe and it should not have Ben cancled. I think u should do another sesion or atleast one more epasode to tie up the lose ends.
I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN NBC. Please do one more episode to tie up the loose ends or do a made for TV special to tie up the loose ends. Either way tie up the loose ends!
Thank you
