At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I will miss this show! Mercy was great…….big mistake NBC!
I LOVED this show!! The last one left me hangin. 🙁 I couldn’t wait to see what happened. I’m sad to see it’s been canceled. Give it another chance!!!
Mercy was one of the best shows of last season now we will never know what the results of the plane crash or car accident were. It really sucks!!! Was excited about the new season going to quit watching any new shows every one I get interested in Three Rivers, Mercy, Eastwick they cancel!!!
I liked very much this show, but can understand that something has to go off if does not attract many viewers. What I think is unacceptable is to end the way it happened, not coming to a conclusion. In respect to all of us who followed the episodes one by one, NBC should at least have the respect to put in the air one or two more, at least to resolve all that was left oppened. No more NBC series for me! Why don’t we all commit to that?
I think cancelling the show was a HUGE mistake! you must give it a second chance! PLEASE! If it was on a dfifferent night, maybe you would have a better chance to bring in viewers. It was a great show and in that one season, you really get to know the characters and feel connected to them plus you get really involved in it all and to drop it so quickly leave too many unanswered questions and people wanting more! BRING IT BACK!, BRING IT BACK!, BRING IT BACK! : )
I am super upset over this show being cancelled. If you are a channel surfer you know that you see so many more stupid shows with no point on air why cancel one that does actually persue reality for some. Just goes to show the wide spread ignorance of TV watchers on what makes a good sorry I mean Great show!
I m so cranky I loved this show ,so tired of new shows coming on air then not making it past the frist season very disappointing shame on who ever decided to cancel this show!!!!!!
I started watching the show and just found out it was cancelled . i mean im so disapointed i was looking forward to seeing second season now im sad cause i started watching a great show not knowing that NBC was going to make the huge mistake of cancelling it what a bummer …..
I am very disappointed Mercy will not be coming back for a second season. I just found this information out. Please, Please, Please bring this show back. I only watch three shows and this is one of them. At the very least, they could have done a finale wrap up. This show should appeal to the 25-45 year old range; probably mostly female viewers. I am 35. Now all of us devoted viewers are left empty…..
I absolutely loved this show and was really looking forward to season 2. I’m very saddened to find out that there will not be a season 2 🙁
I am so bummed that Mercy has been cancelled!!! I loved this show! I looked forward to finding out who Veronica was going to end up with, week to week. This is a big mistake to cancel this show. I wish NBC would bring it back.
I am really disappointed that Mercy will not be back on. I loved that show and just found out that there will not be a season 2. They need to put it back on, especially how it ended. I am very disapointed!!!!!!!!!!!!
NBC please bring Mercy back. What happened to Chris? We need to know. It was a great show.
I just found out this show was cancelled. So disappointed. This was a GREAT show!
I loved this show and was looking forward to it coming back this fall. Mercy then SVU – life didn’t get much better than that. I think NBC made a huge mistake. They should definitely bring it back.
