At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I absolutely LOVED this show and it SUCKS that they have cancelled it!!! I am so frustrated that the networks insist on putting on all of these “reality” TV crap instead of good shows like this one. I look forward to this show every week and am so disappointed that they ended it the way they did. All this does is make me NOT want to invest any time in a TV program because they will most likely just cancel it and it will never come to conclusion. This is the fourth show that I was into that just got… Read more »
This was an absolute awesome show…I was such a fan of ER and miss it so much. Mercy was a show that I loved and helped fill the ER void. NBC screwed up by cancelling a great show.
As far as the networks are concerned, I must have the worst taste in television shows. Almost every show that comes on that I really look forward to watching is cancelled. I hate to even begin to watch new shows anymore as more often than not they do not come back. Mercy was a really good, entertaining show and I will definitely miss it. There’s no sense asking for it to come back because the brass at the networks don’t care. If it is not bringing in the money THEY want it to bring in, it’s gone. I think maybe… Read more »
Every time you start to like a show they cancel it
I have been anxiously awaiting the new season of Mercy. My daughter and I both are hooked. We both work in hospitals in different cites. Wish you would reconsider?
This was one of the best shows on TV. The rating people never asked me what I thought of it. It was great – I am very disappointed that they cancelled it. WIth all the junk that is on TV – they cancell a great one… who makes these decisions?????
Very Creative interaction of hospital staff and situations , great acting, cool
characters, well written . But if it doesn’t relate to brainless 20-34 crowd
and the stupid Advertizing dollars forget it . CBS like all the rest cancel tons
of great shows. Look at Jesse Stone series (TomSellect) . Todays TV is BS sold
to Advert Companies who think they can sell there BS to Us.
I can not believe Mercy was canceled. I couldn’t wait each week for the next show. I bought the first season on DVD. It’s a shame it was canceled and we won’t learn how it was susposed to end.
I loved the show Mercy and was waiting to see the conclusion to the season finale. Please bring it back. It was a great show
I cant believe you canceled mercy, It was one of my favorite shows!!!!! Everytime I start watching something and get involved it is canceled. You need to bring it back!
I agree! My husband and I loved the show and we want it back! There are other shows that should hit the skids. I don’t need all this reality crap, I live it everyday.
I am soooo upset they cancelled Mercy. I was pulled into the stories and being from a big Irish Catholic family, I could really relate to alot of the show. Please reconsider. I truly loved this show.
I can’t Mercy and Trauma were both canceled. I was looking forward to watching both in the fall. There is nothing on T.V.!
why?? please bring it back! I just got hooked on it over the summer online and I’m ready for them to tie up the loose ends for the second season and nothing? What? this is outrageous, please bring it back NBC and give us more time to get hooked for good.
Mercy was great. I waited all summer for the second season to start and now see it was canceled. I don’t have a TV, but watched this religiously on Hulu. Don’t online ratings count for anything. I used to like Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. I became a total Mercy convert.
