At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I have been looking forward to a new season for Mercy. The characters were interesting and the writing was very good. Yes, I am disappointed.
This is awful. Mercy was the only TV series that I looked for on the New Fall Lineup. It was funny, sad and compelling. Nothing else is even worth watching. Trauma was excellent also – and it’s not coming back? How depressing. Please Please Please bring it back on!!!
Why the flip did they cancel this show!?!?!?! Stupid people! I want to see more. The last episode was a horrible way to end it!
Why the flip did they cancel this show!?!?!?! I’ve been waiting and waiting for season 2 to start!!! I really liked this show and even my sister who doesn’t really like TV much really liked to watch it!!!!
what….ive been waiting for a new season to start and now its not? this show was amazing this is freaking dumb. it was so good!
so sad i loved Mercy, was really looking forward to it coming back, guess Ill have to just continue watching Greys 🙁
Mercy was one of the best shows on tv….can’t believe people were dumb enough to end it.
I am pissed. I have been waiting all summer for the show to come back. All the new shows this fall are LAME. I hate everyone.
It’s such a shame that one of the best hospital dramas is no longer on air, and just when the story line was getting good.I feel CHEATED!!! I was looking forward to all the hookups & fall outs. But on the contrary I’m lovin NBC WEDNESDAY LINE UP.
i LOVED Mercy. me @ 2 of my coworkers watched religiously!! the characters were great. not the usual type of drs & rn’s but rns with real family & family issues. does the network know the number of rns that actually do get drunk, take prescription drugs, get laid, had sex with other than mates?!! i hope this show gets picked up by another network. maybe fox or the cw (phila.). i looked forward to picking up where Veronica, Chloe & the other rn left off. I loved having the Mom (from my soap opera days) on the show. this… Read more »
Along with everyone else I too loved the show and am sad to hear season 2 has been canceled. My parents fell in love with the show because they said each episode made them think of the crazy stories I call to tell them about from my daily interactions as a nurse. I received the entire first season as a gift from my parents, and I couldn’t watch enough of it. Watched 3-4 episodes each night and was looking forward to another season. Hoping NBC will re–consider or another station will pick it up.
I am disappointed that another season of Mercy will not be on. I am a nurse and look forward to laughing, crying, and sitting on the edge of my seat when I watch Mercy. I hope that someone gets a clue and realizes that this show is beneficial to reducing the stress in certain peoples lives by making them feel all of the different emotions necessary when watching a good series.
Sincerely, Wendy, RN.
Very disappointed…this was one of my favorite shows on top of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice!!! DISAPPOINTING!!!!
I looked forward to watching it every Wednesday and was disappointed when weeks would go by before a new episode aired. May be the cause of its demise.
I loved Mercy, and I think it blows that it was cancelled!
