At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Mercy is one of the best medical dramas that has aired in a long time! Why NBC cannot see this is beyond me and all the other commentators. NBC’s own Mercy message board was filled with 10 pages of rant that demanded to have Mercy back on the air, but apparently NBC stands for No Body Cares since they don’t listen to what their viewership wants. They air a great series with an amazing cliffhanger and then drop the second season? I think that scores pretty high as one of the most unintelligent moves ever.
So angry! It was my favorite new show in years. The characters were amazing and the show was very well written.
I am not surprised at all. Mercy was an excellent show, with good plots and good acting. How could it survive in the current climate of such exciting shows as watching fat people lose weight over 16 or more boring weeks or the revised Leno show with dirty jokes and cheap shots at politicians, or pablum news entertainment from the News???? department. And of course Law and Order Special Victims guts and smut shows….
BRING IT BACK!!! I LOVED IT!!!!
This is one of the best dramas I’ve seen in a while, and I pray NBC brings it back for Season 2. I agree, advertise it more!! You’ll get the viewership- especially with so many vets from the war going through what Veronica went through… It really shows what our soliders face when they come back to the USA.
as well as a lot of other viewers. After watching the show on Netflix I was really pumped to watch season 2. I really enjoyed this show and was very disappointed o find out the show was canceled. Especially because there is no conclusion!
I thought this show was fantastic….looked forward to each and every episode…I was Shocked when I found out it was cancelled….
WHY?!!!
BRING IT BACK!!!!!
I loved this show it was awesome. The network should at least do one more episode to tight the loose ends.
What an awesome series, even my husband enjoyed watching it! We are saddened to see it canceled, NBC please reconsider and bring back!!
I agree wholeheartedly. Great show and I would like to know what happens now. Don’t leave me hanging!
That show was amazing! I can’t believe that NBC would actually cancel it. It left you hanging, I really wanted to know more. They had such a great cast and they had so many different story lines, that tied up all into one. It was one of the best TV drama shows last fall/winter. I am so sad to see it go. Hopefully they cab bring something like it, but nothing will be as good as Mercy.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!! Its the number one think set to record on my DVR!! I really hope NBC reconsiders and bring it back!! Advertise it more, I need to know what happened when the dr went back overseas!! BRING MERCY BACK!!
