Happy trails. ABC has cancelled Nashville after four seasons, Deadline reports.
The country music drama, which stars Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, is currently nearing the end of its fourth season.
The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise. Only a few weeks ago, we reported new showrunners Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were getting the writer’s room ready for season five and hopeful ABC would renew the series.
However, ratings have dropped over the course of the show’s fourth season. So far, Nashville is earning an average rating of .98 in the 18-49 demo and 4.221 million viewers. Comparatively, the third season averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.16 million total viewers.
The season four, and now series, finale of Nashville airs on May 25th.

Please please please please please x a million pleases, do not cancel NASHVILLE!!! I watch it religiously every Wednesday night. And with each episode I keep looking at the clock hoping it will never end. I spent a week to week waiting anxiously for the next episode. It is an excellent series and has a great storyline and keeps you constantly interested
why the hell would they cancell a great series like Nashville with all the other crap they leave on . We Love that series and watch it faithfully. Please return it so we can see what happens next. That really sucks that they cancelled it.

Don’t cancel Nashville. Love watching this show and never miss an episode. I’m not sure how we can start a petition to have it come back for a new season – but we need to. Very very disappointed in ABC for cancelling. PLEASE RETHINK THIS DECISION.

This is one of the few shows that we watch every single week, either live or recorded. I have thoroughly enjoyed the show and the look inside the music industry. It certainly will be missed at our house.
This series will be missed by me and I’m sure by many more who could enjoy an intelligent drama that didn’t use sex, bloody murders or stupid comedy to keep our interest. What will replace it another trashy sitcom or another reality program of fighting and screaming that I could never let my grandchildren watch.
I loved this show and Im sooo disappointed in ABC… This show was great and I looked so forward to watching it…I just cat believe that its over … I hope ABC reconsiders and puts it back on the air…

OH! not again ABC! always cancelling the fabulous shows! the beautiful people, the actresses and the handsome actors and the music was just to die for! why? because of the ratings maybe it was because of the presidential debates they are all over now! Trump was a different debate in 2016 maybe people tuned in! but we still watched “NASHVILLE” it is the absolute best show out there. the debates are over!!!! thank god!!! that is why the ratings slipped just that little bit!!!what could possibly be good enough to replace “NASHVILLE” it is the real winner of television shows!!… Read more »
Seems that Nashville was aired too late and certainly deserved AT LEAST one more season. Excellent cast & crew, not to mention shooting in Nashville & the incredible music, Reminds me of the ill- fated series Firefly, ended far too soon.
