FOX has decided to cut short the run of New Amsterdam, the dramatic TV show about an immortal cop from the Big Apple.
The series has had a rough ride at the network. Amsterdam was initially scheduled for Fall 2007 but was pushed back to mid-season. On top of that, FOX cut its episode order from 13 to eight episodes.
On the positive side, the series was scheduled for an unpopular Friday night timeslot but was ultimately given a shot on Monday nights.
Amsterdam’s season average of 8.34 million weekly viewers isn’t great but it certainly outperformed and outlasted Canterbury’s Law.
Though FOX considered continuing the story of John Amsterdam (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) for another year, the network ultimately decided his story had come to an end. Still, Amsterdam executive producer David Manson hopes that the series will live on and find a new home on another network. Will that happen? Stay tuned!
We truly are idiots. This was a great show and well received. With a little more time, it would have had 10-20 million viewers. Hopefully another network, with intelligent executive producers who know what to do with a potentially highly watched series, will pick this series up.
Get the message, somebody please pick this show up! It was GREAT!!!!!!!
What can be done to keep this fascinating series on the air?
New Amsterdam was an awesome show. Each week my family and I would watch it together. I thought it was very well done and loved the storyline, shadows of Highlander, which we all loved as well. Hope someone revives the show for the 8.34 million of us that looked forward to watching New Amsterdam each week.
I’ll miss the show…it reminded me of Highlander. Really looked forward to the next season…that’s so bumming.
I did not know that the show had been canceled. My husband and I loved the show. Oh well every show that we like gets the ax.
New Amsterdam was the concept for an immortal I have seen since Highlander the series. Hope that it is truly immortal and lives on it’s a great show.
This was a great show. Wondered what happened to it. The internet answered the question. Hopefully another network will pick it up.
Fox lost out when they cancelled that show. I really enjoyed it. It seems that some of the best shows end up getting cancelled. Sad.
This sucks, i thought it was the best new show on TV. I hope another network is smart enough to give it a chance.
I feel like I was robbed 8/13 show’s! Why not show them all?
Some of us LOVED New Amsterdam… A creative inventive show… wow that’s so bad.. The travel throught the era’s the drama it created the family aspect… I looked forward to each episode… this show brought me back to watching Fox again..
So whatever I don’t need fox but I really did LOVE did I mention LOVE that show.
Your advertisers should be aware that the people who actually spend money on their products are the same people who enjoy watching shows that are both imaginative and entertaining. New Amsterdam has both of these qualities. There are fewer and fewer programs on the Fox Network that I find interesting enough to actually spend my valuable “down time” watching. Perhaps the end result that you are looking for is not that of an audience of intelligent, and thoughtful viewers.
What I don’t get is why FOX loves to cancel shows will-nilly. I’m glad that Terminator is back on FOX, but if it had pretty good ratings, then why on earth would the net cancel New Amsterdam? I guess i’ll have to cross my fingers and hope that it pops up in another network. Speaking of renewals, I believe that fan campaigns should ask these networks to pick up New Amsterdam for another season. NBC The CW Lifetime or TNT All of these networks could really use a fun show like this to add on on top of shows like… Read more »

Please Bring Em Back!!!!!
