The alphabet network has decided they don’t need quite as many episodes of No Ordinary Family. This is just another indication that the show will be cancelled in May. The freshman series may revolve around a family with special powers but the ratings have been anything but super.
Starring Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz, No Ordinary Family debuted on September 28th to a 3.2 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 10.69 million viewers. That was a good start but the numbers dropped by 16% by episode two and have essentially kept falling ever since. The latest installment hit a new low with a 1.4 rating in the demo and 4.77 million viewers, making it the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
Back in late October, despite the falling numbers, ABC ordered nine additional episodes, bringing No Ordinary Family’s season total to 22 installments. ABC execs have now decided to cut the order down to 20 episodes.
According to The Futon Critic, this week’s episode will be an original, number 17. The next two weeks will be filled by repeats and then the final three episodes of the season (and likely the series) will air after that. The finale will air on April 5th.
What do you think? Are you disappointed by the news? Is No Ordinary Family worth saving?

I love No Ordinary Family! It is such a good show that a whole family can watch it. I even got my boyfriend hooked on the show that I record it for us to watch when he comes to visit me! They need to keep this show on the air and get rid of someother shows on there that are not worth watching! Keep NOF on ABC!
There aren’t too many shows that families can watch, this show has gotten better and better. My kids are watching it weekly to find out what’s next…..would be so disappointed if ABC didn’t wait to find out how it will do next season…..I say change the time and day and give it more episodes….we love this show
Only 2 things can save this show. Rename it NCIS:NOF or place the family on a island and have them compete with other super powered individuals in silly stunts in order to remain on the island and retain their powers. As its cheaper to produce shows such as Biggest Loser, Dancing with the Stars, Survivor it takes less of an audience to keep those shows alive. Plus we are being YouTube’d to death. We can’t follow a show that requires remembering things beyond the current episode so stories with an arc are just too difficult for the average viewer to… Read more »
I find it funny that every show I like, and usually the same with friends and co-workers gets canceled. This show has really gotten me hooked and has only been getting better in my opinion.
this is a good family show that is not full of sex. I Truly wish abc will not let it go.
This show should not be cancelled it is great! when are they going to change the rating system what about DVR and online viewing that is the problem. I dvr all the shows i watch somethings gotta give!!
NOF is a weak rip-off of other superhero franchises. The stories are mindless, and cliche’ w/ no real depth. Every good point it racks up, it takes away later. It deserves to be canceled. Despite all that, it’s still one of the few shows that manages to be a little bit unique in comparison to all the other shows that are simply rehashes of the cop/lawyer/doctor formula. The characters are not unlikeable, and I’ll give the writers some credit for working w/ what they’ve been given. It’s far better then The Cape. So, for that, I’d say it deserves to… Read more »
I love this show, I watch it with the kids and they love it too. I hope they give it a chance as it deserves a 2nd season.
This show was hit or miss. However, I found myself enjoying it more often than not. Sure it is cheesy but it is a nice break. It got better as the season went on. I will miss it if it is canceled.
This is a really good show. They need to make sure that the Watcher gets back into Katie’s life. It wasn’t his fault he was the way he was. He was trying to get his life off to a good start by trying to be normal again and the writers make it so that he hurts Katie and moves away. Bring him back. Katie needs him. This is a nice family show. If you need ideas, then get ideas from the public. This show reminds me of the Incredibles.
I really get tired of getting hooked on a show only to have it axed either before or at the end of the first seasons. Okay, so the ratings aren’t great. Give it some time to find an audience! Move it to Wednesday night, put it on as a summer show when there isn’t anything worth watching on anyway. Do something but don’t cancel it! I agree with another user. I don’t even have kids but there are so few shows that are actually family friendly and fun, rather than a show like “Secret Teenager” on a supposedly family friendly… Read more »
It’s up against Glee and NCIS.
Of course the ratings are going to suck. Move it to another time slot, then it’ll do better. Give it another chance… there are plenty of shows that sucked first season and ended up being favourited (Seinfeld anyone?)
if you want to save this show get rid of the kids an the storie line everybody can have super powers an end the stupid story line with the boss
wow, disappointed in the show being cancelled. of course theres problems its a super hero story. the whole point of story’s such as these( i.e. xmen spiderman etc) is that they are make believe. that they take us to a world outside of our own. and they leave much to the imagination. that is the fun. its just like alcohol, one wants to come home and leave the real world behind in fantastic make believe fashion. abc, sell N.O.F. to showtime, the show will be better for it. a more intelligent audience will more than likely grab hold of this… Read more »
They’re making a big mistake. It is an amazing show that deserves to be carried out fully. They should change the day and time of the show, since it is up against more popular, widely known shows like Glee and NCIS. They need to also do some advertising! I have NEVER seen a commercial for a new episode or the series in general. How will ppl watch if they aren’t aware that it even comes on? Take for example, the channel USA. Their new show Fairly Legal is advertised quite A LOT between other shows and on a daily basis.… Read more »
