“NURSE JACKIE” TO WORK ONE LAST SHIFT
Hit SHOWTIME(R) Comedy Series’ Seventh and Final Season Will Premiere In 2015
LOS ANGELES, CA – September 10, 2014 – After six award-winning and critically-acclaimed seasons, NURSE JACKIE, the SHOWTIME hit comedy starring the extraordinary Edie Falco, will begin production this week on its seventh and final season, it was announced today by David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc. The series, which premiered in 2009, instantly became one of the network’s signature series, garnering multiple awards, including several Emmy(R) Awards, a Humanitas Prize, an AFI Award for “Outstanding Television Program” and several Prism Awards for its depiction of substance abuse. It has also placed its star Edie Falco in the rare position of being the only actress to ever win the lead acting Emmy Awards in both comedy and drama, and the most nominated television performer in Screen Actors Guild Awards history. As one of the highest-rated SHOWTIME comedies, as well as the network’s top female skewing comedy, NURSE JACKIE averaged 3.4 million weekly viewers across platforms in its sixth season, once again outperforming its prior season. NURSE JACKIE is a co-production between SHOWTIME and Lionsgate.
“Edie is one of our finest actresses,” said Nevins. “We are so honored to have had her on the network. She creates indelible characters and Nurse Jackie Peyton is no exception. I know this final season will bring her story to a close that will satisfy the ever-growing number of loyal viewers who have been entranced and, at times, appalled by Jackie through the years. I want to thank Edie, the incredible cast of NURSE JACKIE and Clyde Phillips and Richie Jackson who have led the show to the success that it is today.”
“It is with great sadness and pride that we and SHOWTIME bid farewell to such an outstanding series like NURSE JACKIE, its stellar cast led by the incomparable Edie Falco, brilliant producing team led by Clyde Phillips and Richie Jackson, and the entire NURSE JACKIE family of craftspeople and artists that bring this show to rapt audiences year after year,” said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television. “We consider ourselves lucky to have been part of the NURSE JACKIE story and look forward to an unforgettable final season”
NURSE JACKIE also stars Merritt Wever in her Emmy-winning role, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, Stephen Wallem, Betty Gilpin, Ruby Jerins, Mackenzie Aladjem and Peter Facinelli. Tony Shalhoub will guest star this season. Clyde Phillips serves as showrunner and executive producer. Tom Straw, Richie Jackson, Liz Flahive and Caryn Mandabach also executive produce.

That was the most ridiculous final episode of any show in my 55 yrs.
Totally agree with you @Christy Winans! What a crock!
This is a sad day. Why would Showtime cancel one of the BEST shows they have on their network. It is one of the only reasons I subscribe to showtime. Please bring Nurse Jackie back for season 8!! IT is bad biz to cancel a top SHOW!!

I loved this show from the start but it’s reached it’s end and I REALLY Hope that Edie Falco will be back in some series somewhere!
I think this season is the perfect time to say goodbye let Jackie get her job back and stay clean now that shes been in jail pretty much hit rock bottom. I will really miss the show as Ive been a devoted fan from the very first episode. I hope Edie Falco finds another great show to be a hit and star in soon.
Yes, I really like this show. And it is extremely relevant to many people. I think it should keep going.for a few more seasons. Sometimes people who don’t know how to live with a drug addiction. (Or any addiction sugar is actually an epic national Addiction issue in this country and kills more people than all drugs -otc, Rx, and illegal. And sometimes when you give up one, you adopt a new one…. the same way. Go to doctor after a car accident and get a bottle of pills….. take your kid out for icecream and hotdogs or pizza after… Read more »
Jackie is a constant wreck. I love her but I hope she truly finally pays the piper and either gets clean or loses everything in the final season. I will miss this show.
I’ve watched and loved this show since episode 1, season 1. There have been some amazing performances from it’s amazing cast and guest stars over the years. The selfish side of me wants the show to stay on for more seasons, but the realistic side of me knows that it’s time to end. Jackie needs to be held accountable for her drug use and everyone that she has hurt because of it. I hope another well written show with a stellar cast fills Nurse Jackie’s spot.
I really like this show and never miss an episode but I do think it’s time to end it. Hoping the series ends well!
