ABC recently unveiled a new medical drama, Off the Map, which was created by Jenna Bans and is co-executive produced by Bans, Betsy Beers, and Shondra Rimes. All three ladies have been closely involved with Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Will Off the Map be as successful as these other medical dramas or be cancelled after one season?
Off the Map follows six doctors who move to a tiny town in the South American jungle to help the residents and man an understaffed and under-stocked medical clinic. The cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
This new TV show debuted on January 12th to a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic (the number that really matters) and 7.57 million total viewers. That was the night of the President’s speech in Tucson which caused some disjointed viewing in some areas. ABC decided to rerun the series premiere on the following night to give it more exposure, displacing Private Practice.

Despite that extra coverage, Off the Map dropped by nearly 9% in the key demo in week two. That’s not bad percentage-wise but the debut number was pretty low to begin with. The series attracted a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.79 million viewers. Last night’s episode dropped 14% to a 1.8 rating and 5.06 million viewers.
After just three weeks, Off the Map is near the bottom of ABC’s demo rankings of scripted series, tying struggling No Ordinary Family. That’s not good at all and since Off the Map’s ratings haven’t stabilized yet, they may keep falling.
In the past, the alphabet network has renewed one or two struggling freshman series for a second season. Unless the ratings start going up, that looks like Off the Map’s only hope for survival. There are 13 episodes in season one and, for now, the finale is scheduled for April 6th. Time will tell if that ends up being the season or series finale.

I absolutely love this show. I really hope that ABC isn’t going to become like NBC. They put a new show on and take is off without giving it a real chance. I watch very little on NBC due to that reason. Why get involved when you know that when you become attached to the show they will take it off. keep it i love this show and all the good shows are always cancelled. this show is better than greys anatomy and i watch it too. im looking forward to second season so make it happen.
Some people just don”t know good entertainment when they see it. No ordinary
family and off the map are outstanding! Both shows bring something different
and exciting to the screen. Personally I like the time slots that they are in because
it frees up time to watch other popular shows.
I really love this show. The cast of this show is amazing and their characters keep developing. I think they should keep it.
KEEP OFF THE MAP! This show could be better than ER if the network lets it stay.

Keep it. I am warming up to the cast more each week. It deserves a chance to make a place for itself on ABC. Thirteen episodes aren’t enough to do that.
Please keep this show!! The scenery is beautiful, the story lines interesting and not a lot of craziness. Situations that we can get involved in that would rarely happen to us here. Great show.
I love this show, it is refreshing. The cast is great and the scenery is beautiful. It takes you out of that usual sterile environment of other medical shows. Please give this show another chance and keep it going. I think you need to do a better job of marketing it. I found it because I was channel surfing and it looked interesting, Please keep it coming.
I LOVE Off the Map! I will be unhappy if they cancelled it. I am so sick of the comedies that air and Off the Map is a bright spot for me during the week. Don’t Cancel it! give it a chance!
KEEP IT! i love this show way more than private practice all they need to do is more advertisement like in between scenes in greys anatomy. i know they cant do cross overs with greys because of cole but that doesn’t mean they can’t use the popularity of greys anatomy to their advantage they have to remember it takes money to make money

KEEP IT!!!!!!! It is so so good. They can’t cancel both Ordinary Family and Off the Map…. if you have to keep one, it should be off the map!!!!!!! give it a chance!
I LOVE OFF THE MAP!!!! If they cancel the show I will be extremely upset and disappointed. This is the number one show I look forward to watching every week! I love the love stories mixed in with the hospital drama! There is no other show like it! UGH Just thinking about them canceling it pisses me off.
OFF THE MAP is a great new show…..I like THE MIDDLE, love MODERN FAMILY” but think MR. SUNSHINE is just plain silly and a total waste of time……Could it be that this lead-in is the problem for OFF THE MAP? If I wasn’t waiting for OFF THE MAP to come on, I’d turn the TV off or switch to another channel. Please give it a chance — and schedule it after a good show (perhaps one episode rather than two of THE MIDDLE at 8 p.m., followed by MODERN FAMILYat 8:30 then OFF THE MAP at 9 p.m.?)
