ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

I agree with all the comments above. I recorded it every wk to watch twice and for others in the house to be able to watch it. Does the recording get counted? It was my favorite show next to Smallville in which everyone knows Smallville is over now also. So now there is nothing different to watch!!! This series most definately had something different. It will be missed!!!
Another excellent show cancelled. WHAT GIVES I think the network needs to really look at what they are cancelling. This is not the first time ABC has cancelled a great television show. Time to start watching a different network
ABC sucks they always do this… Make you like a show then cancel it.
I’m soooo sad. I think Off the Map could have been promoted alot better, I did not really know it was on untill halfway through the season!! Of course Hulu quickly got me up to date and I was hooked!!
NOT happy!! I love this show and was eager to find out what happened to the characters.
WHAT!? This is nuts! Definitely a let down after such an amazing opening season. Even my Grandma watched this show. It appealed to so many age groups. PLEASE reconsider!!!
I agree. It is a great show. It had some meat in it and some clever twists in the plot. Enough reality shows!!

I am sooooo disappointed!!!!!! Can not believe this show was cancelled. The characters were great and it was the best medical drama on TV.
This really makes you not even want to watch any new shows because you become attached to the characters and then they are just taken away without any closure.
I think I’ll just wait for shows to air for awhile and wait til they come out on Netflix and if they will be renewed.

I LOVED this show! My daughter and I would watch it together. I cannot believe they would cancel such a great show. They keep ones that are terrible and cancel the good ones. What is TV coming too?
I finally found a show worth watching and it is cancelled before it was given a chance. The time slot it was given was a tough one. It seems to me that if you moved Private Practice to that slot and put Off the Map following Greys then we would see the same results and Off the Map would still be around. To bad we will never know the writers intents with the last show.
I am actually sooo upset about this. I thought that this show was great! And should have gotten a second season. They really didnt give it much of a chance! The time slot was horrible and I really didnt see any promo’s for it! My sister got me hooked on it from about the third or fourth episode in. I’m very upset that I can’t find out what happens after the season one finale!! 🙁
Something is desperately wrong here. I know this show appealled to multiple generations. I heard it discussed everyone I went. There had to be something wrong with the time slot. I cannot believe the network didn’t at least try a different time slot for one more season. They need to take a closer look and see if sporting events or news shows didn’t cause the ratings problem. This show had something more than the usually soap opera dramas being put on the air. ABC you goofed!
