ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

So disappointed..this is an amazing show so nice to see something with more character and beautiful scenery. I hope another station picks it up…you must…and place it on the air at an appropriate time slot.
This is insane! Off the Map was 1 of the best shows the network had. There are only a hand full of shows I myself watch on ABC & OTM was 1 of them. The level of ratings had nothing to do with the show itself … it was fully the networks fault. I stumbled upon the show by chance. There was definitely NOT enough publicity. What is wrong ABC? Off the Map was new and exciting and was so different as it was not set in a sterile hospital setting. What is wrong with DIFFERENCE? I beleive that a show as clever like this in it’s romance, twists, comedic nature and medicine should have been given more of a chance. This is a mistake, this show had legs. It pulled me in right away, and I’m not much for dramas. Taking this whole thing outside, really pulled me in. Don’t talk about greys anatomy, yuck, this was the go to. Great show, really hope someone picks it up.

I am really upset about this, I never missed a show and was so excited to wait for the next episode!!!!! How can they cancel this show, I love Greys and Private Practice , having Off the map gave me something to watch before my other shows. They should really reconsider airing this show!!!!! I LOVE THIS SHOW and I am really disappointed that it will not be back!
Bummer!! My mom and I both really liked this show. I was actually into this show more than Grey’s Anatomy (which I’ve been watching from the start even though it’s been pretty lousy lately). I’m really surprised Off the Map’s not coming back! Beside Bones and Grey’s, it’s the only show I watched!
I loved the show but American idol was on and unfortunately I Think that is why the views dropped. I’m so sad 🙁
I too am soooo disappointed that this show has gone off the air. I am of the ‘older’ generation & like others, I finally found a show worth watching and it is cancelled before it was given a chance. Instead new ‘reality’ shows are aired & remakes of shows like Hawaii Five-O – all of these which I am really not into. It makes me think twice of getting into even watching new shows.
I loooooved that show, what’s wrong with ABC? Change time slots and put the show back on TV ! It was actually one of the few shows worth watching, esp on Wed!!!

REALLY…..? It’s cancelled? How disturbing. I absolutely loved this show. It was refreshing. Such a great change from the same ole sameole shows of today. I say move Private Practice back to Wednesday, and have Off The Map follow Grey’s. I too am a fan of Private Practice fan as well as Grey’s, but they truely aren’t as refreshing as Off The Map.
