ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

I agree – it was the one show me and my husband made a point to watch – we are so disappointed that ABC cancelled it – what is it with networks – they never even give stuff a chance anymore.
I found myself looking forward to watching Off The Map this season more than any other show that was running! I’m very disappointed that it’s been cancelled, and was also disappointed that I didn’t even know the finale episode was the finale. I really wish they wold reconsider and give it a second chance! My friends and I really loved it!
How disappointing…was really heading in a great direction….They never gave it a chance. It would have survived at a 9pm time slot.
My family watched Off the Map every week. It was so refreshing..a combination of a medical series with a survivor type atmosphere. The characters in the show really connected in a fun way. This show was really great. A refreshing change from the endless police dramas on the TV today and a quirky different medical show from the other ones available. ABC pleeeeeeeze cancel these idiotic Bachelor/Bachelorette shows…they are soooooooooo bad!!!! Listen to your viewers here and bring back Off the Map and Brothers and Sisters, pleeeeeeeeeeeze!!!!!!
I totally agree with all the comments above. Off the Map was a refreshing change to all the other night time shows. I purposely “googled” too find out when the second season would start. Was totally BUMMED to see it had been cancelled!!! Please give it another season, somethings take time to catch on. I also did not ever miss an episode!!! Makes me sad to think it won’t be back!
My family liked “Off the Map”. It had a good story line and great characters but surprisingly alot of people did not know about it. Like me I hear people are getting real sick of the not so much “reality”, reality TV and lets add one more Bachelor show to the mix. People are turning off. Try putting it on earlier in the evening and doing more advertisement.

I cannot believe the show got cancelled it was my favorite new show for this year. I hope that they give it another chance it is an amazing show.
Off the map was an easy show to watch and I enjoyed all of the episodes! Really wish it was coming back next season!
I cant believe { Off TheMap} Is getting cancelled! Come on now, this is one of kind show! We love this show. That’s why my husband even loves it and is disappointed too. This is one show we watch together because it has a little bit of everthing in the show that we both like. It has drama, romance,humor ,beutifull scenery and great acting.Everything in it that other shows you are keeping dont have.Please keep OTM on.We are tired of all the detective shows which all seemed the same. Just cus it wasn’t a good rating season for you doesn’t mean you should give up on something great!!!!!

this isn’t my best day apparently. I was surfing and discovered Lie to Me and Human Target have been cancelled. Many people like myself are very disappointed. Then on NBC, they cancelled Outsourced. Even my husband was disappointed about that one. He thought it was really funny and different. I thought it was fresh, and was helping us learn more about Indian culture. Obviously if Americans understand other cultures more, it’s a bad thing. And on ABC, they cancelled Off the Map. No problemo, I will now just shut off the TV and read.
