After some very lackluster ratings, NBC is shutting down production on Outlaw. Is it the next to be cancelled?
The Outlaw TV show follows the crusades of a Supreme Court Justice (Jimmy Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
Outlaw debuted via a special preview on Wednesday September 15th, following the season finale of America’s Got Talent. The series premiere was reasonably sampled with a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.68 million viewers.
In its regular timeslot a week and two days later, episode two attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.89 million total viewers. Last Friday, Outlaw garnered only a 1.0 rating and 4.72. Though expectations are lower on Friday nights, this performance is terrible.
NBC has now shut down production of the series while execs mull over how to proceed. They supposedly want to see how the series performs over the next couple weeks but there’s no reason to expect that the numbers will get any better.
Eight episodes of Outlaw have been produced and five haven’t aired yet. While it seems likely that NBC will air them all at some point, it seems even more likely that Outlaw will be cancelled soon.
What do you think? Do you watch Outlaw on NBC? Do you think the show could be saved? What would you change?

Please find something else for Jesse Bradford ASAP! The guy rocks and deserves a meatier role on a better show.
This is a great show. Why they would let it goes is sad. Show reminds me of a show like Nash Bridges.Guys, you are making mistake if you let this one go so soon. Shame this show didn’t go with USA Network. Please think twice on this one,all it needs is some time.
Like I predicted after the first episode the show would not last. The producers went out of their way to insult 50% of their audience, those with conservative views. Most people do not want their beliefs to be looked down upon and portrayed unfair especially with so many viewing options today. Hollywood producers need to realize they need to keep politics and religion out of their shows otherwise they are going to have numerous people turn the show off. This show makes conservatives look like uncaring and bigoted people which is not true. This show had a lot of promise… Read more »
My husband and I both love the show. Keep it on but put it on a different night! Many good shows this year have been put on across from other good shows. Thank goodness for our DVR. Do the people who decide to cancel or keep shows realize how many people DVR 2 shows at once and watch them at different times than they are aired? I hope this procedure doesnt effect their decisions! Get rid of all the lame reality garbage shows! Smits is a great actor and the show is wonderful!!!!
While it probably beats most of the garbage reality TV, that doesn’t mean I’m in the mood to watch the escapades of some flaming left-wing do-gooder ACLU type taking on every so-called “social injustice” case that comes along. Yeah, I root for the underdog, too, and like seeing wrongs righted, but it’s the basic premise of that character that I don’t like. Cancel it.
email angela.bromstad@nbcuni.com and ask to KEEP OUTLAW ON! 🙂
I’m tired of networks who won’t give a new show a chance. This is one of the few new shows I like. Leave it on. Wait for the word to spread that it’s worth watching!
I have had a show idea for a long time.Call it PHOBIA.People come on each week and face their fears head on.Everyone has a phobia. . . . . . . . . . . And a show that people can bring their pets to and show the talents they have.Call it HIDDEN TALENT.
*sigh* I really wanted to like this show…I truly enjoy Jimmy Smits work and have watched every series in which he has been cast. I really wanted to like this one but…I don’t. I don’t like the character and find the scenarios contrived. My husband gave up after the 1st episode. I’ve hung in hoping that there would be some improvement but after that dopey ending to last week’s episode, I dunno 🙁
Well thanks nbc for giving outlaw a chance.I thought it had promise.
I liked outlaw.Oh well.LET THE VIEWERS DECIDE.
Keep Outlaw. It is one of the new shows that I actually look forward to and even did DVR it All the reality shows bore me. I think the topics on Outlaw so far have been relevant and thought provoking. Please, NBC.
Keep the show. It is good entertainment. Ditch some of these boring reality shows. Yes, it is another courtroom drama, but it does have a twist. It is about someone that was in a powerful position that stepped down so that he could better serve those that need it the most. Leave it on NBC.
I really like the Outlaw series with Jimmy Smits. I always watch a series with him in it. Due to work, however, I watch the show on Comcast’s “On Demand”. I hope that the network will take that into consideration for me and other viewers who do the same. Thanks.
Please keep Outlaw!! My husband and I BOTH LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
