Tonight marks the season finale of NBC’s Parenthood. The ratings are down so will it end up being the series finale as well? Will the show be cancelled or return for a fourth season?
Parenthood debuted back in March of 2009 as a mid-season replacement series. The first season’s 13 episodes ended up averaging a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.38 million total viewers. The show was on the bubble but ended up getting renewed.
NBC didnt wait until mid-season to bring it back and season two kicked off in September 2010. With a full 22 episode season, the show’s averages dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.34 million. Parenthood was on the bubble once again but, once again, it ended up being renewed.
This season, the ratings have dropped once again. The third season of Parenthood (not including tonight’s numbers) have averaged a 1.9 in the demo with 5.13 million. Based on the lower numbers at the start of the season, NBC only ordered 18 installments this time around.

Ordinarily, one would expect that Parenthood would be on the verge of cancellation once again. However, because the rest of NBC’s schedule is in such sorry shape, Parenthood’s ratings actually look pretty good by comparison.
Out of the 17 scripted programs that have aired on NBC this season, Parenthood has the sixth highest demo ratings, beating out shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Grimm. On our NBC ratings report card, Parenthood registers a firm “B.”
Based on the season numbers and the fact that Parenthood is co-produced by Universal Television, NBC’s own production company, it’s almost guaranteed to be back for a fourth season.

Love this show..I dont watch too much TV but this is one of the shows that I love and wont miss. Hope you bring it back next season. I feel these are real people in a real family with issues that are happening in the real world.
This is such a great family show! Content, acting, and values all in one. Please NBC, show some guts and let us watch something of real value and not just another mindless ‘reality’ or sit-com show. Look at the backlash from the public after the dropping ‘Judging Amy’ another great family show. Give us at least another season of ‘Parenthood’.
Please keep Parenthood for atleast one more season. I’m afraid that it may be done. The last show did wraped up a lot of things . Please keep it on

Parenthood has smart, funny writers. I’m a little disappointed in the casual sex, but I guess that’s normal these days. I wish it set a better example, but I love the characters. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, etc….
My husband and I ( we are youngish grandparents) are huge fans of this show! We can never believe that Parenthood is overlooked during the Emmys – both for the acting and the writing. It’s not too corny, this issues are real, and the way they interact and react as a family is so true to life. Keep it coming!
Please don’t cancel the best show on TV
My husband and I love this show. It is the highpoint of our TV week. Please don’t take it off. There are so few shows that are actually worthwhile watching.
This show has the best writers and actors of any show on TV. I love this show. I love the fact that it shows all the challenges that we and all of our family members are faced with on a daily basis. The problem that I see regarding this show is that more dollars are spent promoting inferior programs of lessor quality. We need more programs like Parenthood that focus on the positive values of being a part of a loving family.
I love Parenthood and watch it every week – it has heart and real issues that touch on every age and facet of life. One of the few out there that are worth sitting down for!

Parenthood is my absolute favorite show!!! I am so bummed that it’s over for the season. I really, really hope it’s renewed next season!!!
I love Parenthood…watch it every week and I’m looking forward to seeing it in the next season. I can’t handle anymore crime shows so please keep this going.
