NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

LOVE IT. It’s the best thing on network TV at the moment. Finally a show where we can care about all of the characters – sort of a 30-something without all the self-indulgent angst and other bull** from the ’90s. The families involved revolve around their kids – and that includes the first generation, so the whole thing is fun and entertaining. Something for everyone. OK, it’s a little corny around the edges but this is network after all. And the casting is point-on. Great talent, kids look like and have the same ticks as their parents – the families… Read more »
I am so glad Parenthood will be renewed for another season. It is good and I am crazy about Peter Krause. I was a big fan of Dirty Sexy Money and I hated to see that end with such a great cast plus I think he is a great actor plus very handsome as well.
One of the best shows on TV. Great writers, great acting, great drama and funny — all at the same time. Way to go NBC!
I really like this show!Anyone know when the season finale is???
I only watched the pilot and a couple of minutes of the second episode. I can’t stand those happy-go-lucky families on TV. I also hate “Brothers and sisters”. Too corny!
I think this show is great and so does my husband, that’s a miracle!
Love the show! I’m so glad it’s coming back for a 2nd season. YIPPeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
I loved Peter Krause in Dirty Sexy Money, and was sad when that went away. Although, I could see that the show was really going nowhere, but I still enjoyed his character. I was really happy to see him back on a “really good” show that seems to have a lasting effect. I think they did a great job with casting. The family is unique, but believable. I’m not even a parent and I enjoy watching. I think it’s because there’s always some way I can relate to the characters whether from past childhood experiences or just general family occurrences.… Read more »

I love this show. It’s one of the few show that makes me laugh out loud.
Don’t cancel it.
Love this show, I wasn’t sure at the pilot, (but then again you can never tell with the first episode) but now that I’m hooked, NBC can’t back out now! Love everyone on the show! My favorite character is Julia. Hate that Rachel or Raquel lady. Love the tension between them!
