NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

Thank goodness Parenthood is coming back. That will bring the number of TV shows worthy of watching to ONE. Glad to have Lauren Graham back. Missed her after Gilmore Girls. We need more Parenthood type shows and NO MORE reality garbage.
I was bummed cuz I didn’t c n e thing about renewing for the new season I’m sooo stoked its back.
Can’t wait for it to start again… excellent show. When does it start up again? anyone knows? Was watching for it tonight Tuesday, but was saddened by it not being there.
I love this show! It’s witty, poignant, funny and very intelligent. Amazing actors, except for the one married to Hank Azaria. She’s a bit weak, one dimensional. But the rest of the cast is top notch! I love Dax Sheppard and Blythe Danner is a fantastic, multi-faceted actress. Love it!!!
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! I was scared it wasn’t going to return since I haven’t seen any previews – now im HAPPY yay! can’t wait… and I agree… PLEASEEEEE NO MORE reality shows they suck! doesn’t get any REAL than parenthood
KEEP IT!!! LOVE IT!!
Finally a clean family show that handles all aspects of family issues, with a phenomenal cast. NBC would be stupid to cancel it… Just don’t turn it into a soap opera!
Finaly, a reason to watch network television. Thank you NBC for such a good show. When you have reasons to laugh and cry on the same show you have hit the motherlode of entertainment. Again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
I love this show. I can not wait for the second season to start 🙂

OH, HAPPY DAY! I LOVED THIS SHOW AND SO DID A LOT OF MY FRIENDS. WE HAVE ALL BEEN HOPING IT WOULD RETURN.
THE LIVES OF THESE PEOPLE DEPICT WHAT SO MANY ARE EXPERIENCING AND GIVES COURAGE TO THEM WHEN THINGS SEEM BLEAK.
THE STARS ON THIS SHOW ARE PERFECT FOR THE PART!
HOPEFULLY, THIS SHOW WILL LAST FOR MANY YEARS!
I can’t WAIT for the new season to start.
Finally, after so many good shows had been cancelled, one great show is staying. Parenthood is most realistic, a show that real people can relate to, and the writers plus the actors deserve a standing ovation!
I love this show and the characters, I know they have their problems but I wouldn’t mind being part of this family. I hope NBC acknowledges a good show when it sees one, and pleeeeease, no more reality shows, or law & orders . I love parenthood, keep up the good work.
Parenthood is the best, non PBS show on the air. It is so refreshing to see a smart show with nothing blowing up, no one surviving things that no one could survive, no “real” person acting (or being) a complete idot for the cameras, and no annoying laugh track where someone says “hello” and is met with an electronic audience laughing hysterically. Parenthood has “stories” that are probably more real life than anything you see on “real life” shows. The key to Parenthood’s success is “story” and “character”, each of which it has in abundance and both of which are… Read more »
