NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
I was very disappointed to sit down and find that a different show had replaced perfect couples. It had become one of the favorites for my wife and I of the Thursday night lineup. I couldn’t get through 5 minutes of the Paul Reiser show. I really hope it comes back. Please! I love this show.
I am so sad that Perfect Couples is cancelled! It was my favorite of the Thursday night lineup, and that is saying a lot since 30 Rock has always been amazing. I love all of the characters in the show and laugh through the whole 1/2 hour. Please bring it back!!
My husband and I love Perfect Couples! It’s hilarious! PLEASE bring it back!!
both my fiance and i loooove this show! keep it, keep it, keep it! bring it back!! pretty please? 🙂
This show was awesome, I just tried to watch it on my dvr, only to find Paul reiser on my screen, bad move NBC
I love this show….don’t let it go! I actually laughed out loud.
This show was da balls
I was soooooooooo disappointed to read that NBC isn’t bringing back Perfect Couples!! Like the rest of you, My husband and I looked forward to it every Thursday, even more than The Office. Yes, Paul Reiser, boring. Perfect Couples was dead on, laugh out loud funny every time! Great mix of personalities on the show made each character delightfully clever and hillarious. Give the people what they want, NBC, bring back Perfect Couples!!!!!
did i really just read that ‘the cape’ had higher ratings than ‘perfect couples’???!!!!! what is wrong with america?????!!!!! nbc, heed my advice and the advice of everyone else on this message board: bring back perfect couples! paul reiser sucks. what is this–1992??? no wonder your ratings are in the tank.
DO NOT CANCEL PERFECT COUPLES!!! That show is hilarious, I was so happy they finally found another great show for Thursday nights, MY FAV NIGHT OF THE WEEK B/C OF NBC! Perfect Couples is so much better than Outsourced. KEEP IT GOING!!!!!
Such a hilarious show! David Walton’s character has great comedic timing and just enough dry sense of humor, plus the wedding planner/car salesman couple is hilarious. Why would NBC ditch a great show, even though the ratings are low, give it time. It is way better than “Outsourced” which is full of gimmicky cliches`. So let’s see. NBC has made great decisions in the past. They dumped “Southland”, “Life”, and “Law and Order (original)” They decided to put Jay Leno in primetime eating up valuable time-slots. Then can Coco, who is funnier than Leno. So they replace “Perfect Couples” with… Read more »
My fiance and I sat down to watch Perfect Couples tonight, little did we know it wasnt showing, which is why i am on this site. We enjoyed watching this show every thursday night. It was by far our favorite. I feel as though people didnt know about this show, we found it by flipping through channels and immediately got hooked!! Please put it back on air!!! Thursday nights just won’t be the same!!!
I’ll admit, the show had to grow on me, but after just a few episodes it quickly became one of my favorites – very well written. I hate to see it go and would love to see the unaired episodes at a minimum. I watched the Paul Reiser show tonight, and while it’s too soon to call, so far it seems like a dumbed down version of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Nooooooooo!!! This was my main reason for watching the Thursday night lineup! I stumbled on it by accident as well and fell in love. The scripting was fantastic; superb comedy. So sad to see it get replaced 🙁 Please bring it back!!! I do not think this is a good move for NBC.
I really liked this show. I had no idea it was cancelled. Not thrilled about the Paul Reisinger show. The last show Kyle Bornheimer was in got cancelled too and I thought that show was funny too. I agree with Mike above. Bring it back!! Advertise it more! Try again for those of us who liked it.
