NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
I certainly didn’t feel that all my questions were answered by the end of the season. For example, how did Blackman know Charlie’s wife was named Charlotte? And what is the real purpose of the company? Really lame to claim they would answer everything when they didn’t.
We need a secound was so looking forward to it comming. Back on. Well if you ask me..that sux..
Great show…great concept…definitely should return..
i was very but very HOOKED!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely gotta have more!!!!!!!!
me too. please season 2 or more 🙂 loved the show and am sharing it to my family/friends/ facebook! pretty please? love the acting, cinematography. im still ep 3/4 but really into it. every ep is better than the next. LOST doesnt make sense. this does. for now the night manager is a little plot hole for me; for now.
Actually gutted that theres not going to be another season!
I have to say…i hope that they continue with this series. There is an insane amount of potential. For what ever reasons it is that show air. The VP’s should really dig and consider all angles. This is one of the very few AWESOME shows out there and i will watch anything related to the very end.
I can’t believe that NBC may not not be renewing this series. I didn’t even know that it was on this year since NBC heavily promoted “Undercovers” so hard. It seems they want to promote weak shows and show little interest in trying to keep stronger shows. At the very least, they should turn it over to SYFY and let them handle it.
My friend strongly suggested this series so I added it on Netflix. The next thing you know, I was up til 5 am watching the whole season in 1 night. Great show. Hope there is a second.
i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this show and im going to write nbc and hope we get another one .i think people didnt catch on right away cause it was a little slow. But as episodes went on i could pull away from my roku.I feel like i lost my best friend.Iam a dedicated lost fan and this show helped me cope with that loss.So pleassssssssssssssee bring it back for a secound season.
I can’t believe there won’t be a second season. I couldn’t stop watching it – it is so good.
I loved the show. Watched it on Netflix all this week and couldnt stop. I thought there would be a new season because the way it ended. The answers where not given to the basic questions, in fact the way it ended made me wanna come back for more. Level 2 seemed really interesting, with the addition of showing what would happen in a second “area”. they also hinted that they were gonna make changes to the process but we didn’t get insight as to what. I would love to see iut continue and be promoted on a larger scale.… Read more »
Bought the series on ITunes…OMG!!!! could not stop watching. It’s great, I want to know what happens next. So hoping for season 2.
I cannot believe that they ended it like that….I cannot say I feel all my questions were answered. They never explained what the purpose of the Program was…just that they were doing it for the good of the world. Or who was that Raiden looking guy at the round table meeting. And really people wouldn’t recognize the Ambassadors daughter? She was supposed to be the Paris Hilton of the show. I watched the whole series in two days, 11 episodes yesterday and the last two today. I think it is a great show, I was unaware that it was supposed… Read more »
