Many medical dramas have succeeded on television and many more have failed. The Pure Genious TV show is a bit unique as it mixes medical cases with high tech. Is this a winning combination for CBS when it comes to the ratings? Is this TV series worth watching? Should Pure Genius be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Pure Genius follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. Doctor Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) is a disgraced but brilliant surgeon who is recruited by a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire, James Bell (Augustus Prew). Wallace learns that Bell is harboring a secret and he begins to question just what the young founder is really trying to achieve. Others on the team are played by Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Pure Genius debuted on October 27th with a 1.05 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.23 million viewers. It was not a good start and the show’s ratings have gotten even worse. The second episode dropped to a 0.88 rating with 5.37 million.
The numbers have risen and fallen a bit over the course of eight episodes that have aired so far. The show’s averaging a 0.9 demo rating with 5.39 million viewers. Pure Genius is currently CBS’ second-lowest rated scripted TV series (behind Elementary, which airs on Sunday nights at 10pm).
It’s already been revealed that CBS won’t be ordering any more episodes for season one of Pure Genius. Though the network hasn’t cancelled the show, it’s highly unlikely that CBS will be bringing it back for a second season either.
Pure Genius is off the schedule for the holiday but will return in a special timeslot on Sunday, January 1st, at roughly 9pm (it may be delayed because of football). The remaining installments will air on Thursday nights at 10pm. Right now, it looks like the (likely series) finale will air on January 26th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Pure Genius TV show? Is the show better than the ratings seem to indicate? Should the network cancel or keep it?

luv pure genius do not cancel are you crazy best program ever
Please renew this show. It is engaging, inspiring and promotes POSITIVE possibilities which is severely lacking in most shows these days. My wife and I both LOVE the show and unfortunately watch it on DVR due to the timeslot and other family commitments. Then we watch it again online as typically the football games or other programming prolong the start and we miss the ending…so we log on and watch the endings online. It’s TRULY a great show to watch. Thank you for bringing it to us and PLEASE don’t cancel!
Keep it! It’s a great show
Keep the show!
Please keep the show, it is amazing
Great educational and inspiring series. Keep it coming. Cannot get enough of it. With all the turmoil this country has gone through this is one of the most positive doable futuristic reality we need to enjoy.
This is one of the best new shows and should be kept.
Pure Genius is ONE television show left offered by the once upon a time major network(ABC, NBC, CBS) worth watching. PLEASE don’t make another mistake by cancelling the show.
Why is it networks are always in such a rush to cancel INTELLIGENT programs. Monday Mornings and Pure Genius are probably two of the best Medical Dramas of the last decade, and neither ever got a real chance to acquire an audience. Great show. GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!!
Keep the show! I love it!
Please keep, informative and love the concept…it is a good show…Please Do Not cancel…
Please keep the show
Please keep this show!
I love the show, please keep it!!! If the time was not so late I’m sure it would have more viewers! I think the show is refreshing and educational. It seems as though the only shows that contine are those that are demonic, violent or immoral. These are the shows that should have a late time slot!!! PLEASE keep it!!!!
Really?
5.37 million viewers??
How did they come up with this count?
It should be 5.38 million viewers!…I believe I got missed! LOL
The show is a refreshing different type of medical drama and I enjoy watching it. Please keep this show going CBS!
