Last night marked the end of the first season of Secrets and Lies (it may be the end of the series as well) and many viewers were less than pleased about how it ended.
On Secrets and Lies, a house painter and family man discovers a neighbor boy’s dead body in the woods and he quickly goes from being a Good Samaritan to a murder suspect. The lives of everyone around him are turned upside down by the ensuing police investigation and media attention. Did he really do it? The series stars Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis, KaDee Strickland, Natalie Martinez, Dan Fogler, Indiana Evans, and Belle Shouse.
In the finale, we learn that Abby killed Tom and says that the two kids had planned to run away together to be rid of their turmultuous households. She says that he wanted to go back, she panicked and accidently killed him wiith a flashlight. Ben decides to protect his family and take the rap for the murder. Cornell knows the truth but can’t talk him out of it. Abby goes free and Ben goes to jail for a crime he didn’t commit. The twist is that Abby killing Tom wasn’t accidental. Her murder of Tom was brutal and premeditated. End of season… or is it?
In an extra scene released by ABC, the story picks up 14 months later. It’s Natalie’s 18th birthday and she and Dave are quietly celebrating at a coffee shop. Cornell walks in and tries to convinces Natalie that she finally needs to clear her father’s name. It seems like Natalie will testify. Unfortunately, it sounds like Ben has died but Cornell doesn’t explicitly say that. In the final moments, we see Cornell approaching Abby and her mother as they’re on a shopping trip. Here’s the video:
What do you think? Do you like the extra scene? Would you like to see more of these characters or has this story been wrapped up enough for you?
Would like to see a conclusion. There has got to be a conclusion to what Abby has done. She has no conscience, and puts her mother and others as she gets older in jepordy. Reminds of the the ‘old’ movie, The Bad Seed with Nancy Kelly playing the mother. Remember, after the movie ended, and what happened? I do. Great performances – have a resolution.
I loved that show but I felt the ending still left us hanging. I think there should be more episodes!
LOVE THE SHOW!! PLEASE CONTINUE WITH SAME MAIN CHARACTERS AND DON’T KILL OFF TOM OR MAKE HIM DIE PLEASE KEEP IT GOING BECAUSE I AM ADDICTED!
I was confused because I was looking for the 5-10 episode to put it all together.. Having Ben die or “he’s no longer here “… Really not well thought out..
I loved the extra scene. I really think one more episode to totally conclude this case would have been better than the way it was left.
I will definitely watch season 2.
Love Secret Lies, and really enjoy the actress playing Cornell. I am looking forward for Season 2 to pick up where it was left off with Ryan going to jail and with the conversation that was presented in the vehicle between mother and daughter (abbey). I feel the short look at the “14 months later” was a quick inside of what may come about in the second season. I know just seeing that, differently peaked my interest. Juliette Lewis may be intense, but she has that role down well. The added stress of a mother in the line of work… Read more »
show was good but ending sucked. Having to go to the internet instead of concluding it on tv sucked. Would like to no when u start watching a series how many episodes it is n then conclude it
we need an ending
Abby needs to pay before she hurts someone else
I absolutely loved the show and was waiting for last one that never came
please
I never heard them say it was the last episode. I got the impression three episodes ago that the last episode would be on 4/10/15. I wanted to find out what Abby meant by what she said in the car that made her mother look back at her. The Season did not seem complete at all. Either Abby hit Tom six times, or only once and then left him for dead. Another female came along (maybe her mother) and when she found Tom still alive, beat him to dead. We needed a final solid episode. I feel confused and cheated.… Read more »
I would definitely watch season 2.
Yes, please bring this great show to a more satisfying conclusion.
Loved the show. Ended to soon. Would like to continue current story. Will watch next season.
When viewers invest that much of their time in a series, they expect the producers to respect them enough to give them the payoff they have been faithful to the series waiting for..or at least to have the resolution come in a subsequent season. Neither of those seem to be the case. I won’t watch next season. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
I loved the series and will definitely watch season 2. I do wish that the extra footage would have been included in the finale. I would love to see a continuation of the same characters, but I would watch it even if there is a new case. I looked forward to watching it every week. I was really sad when it ended!
Loved the xtra scene. Agree that it should have been included in the series finale. For me, the mini-series has been wrapped up. I don’t think Cornell as a character can carry a continuing series
I loved this but if the characters change, I will not watch season two.
