William Shatner may not be able to appear in the Star Trek movies, but what about the TV show? Recently, the actor spoke to TV Guide about possibly appearing in the upcoming CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery.
From Bryan Fuller, the new show is expected to premiere in early 2017.
When asked if he would resurrect the original Captain Kirk for Star Trek: Discovery, Shatner said maybe:
When pressed further, Shatner revealed he’s not totally against reviving Kirk; he just wants it to have more substance than a gimmicky cameo. When asked if there was any way he’d drop by Discovery, he said he would, but only, “If I were useful.””
The actor also revealed that he feels Leonard Nimoy was underused in the Star Trek films:
Leonard [Nimoy, who plays Spock in the franchise], my friend, did a cameo [in the new Star Trek movies]. I said to him, ‘You know you’re old when you go back in time and you’re still old.’ It was a cameo, and I thought, ‘That’s a waste of time. He’s so talented. Why didn’t they do something more with him?’ So that’s the way I feel about that.”
What do you think? Are you a Star Trek fan? Would you like to see Shatner in the new series?
How could a show set 10 years before ST TOS have Shatner cameoing as Kirk? Time travel? No thanks.
Bill Shatner was right – only let him work on the show if it’s USEFUL, and maybe he doesn’t have to actually be James Tiberius Kirk.
So…nope.
Discovery is 10 years before TOS. Kirk would be in his mid twenties. Shatner is in his mid 1,000’s. I’m all for TOS characters appearing on Discovery but with new, Young actors.
bill shatner is too old to do more than a cameo role. they need to be able to write him out at the drop of a hat
