Syfy has confirmed that there won’t be a third season for Stargate Universe. The science fiction series has been cancelled after two seasons and 40 episodes.
The first half of season two finished airing on November 30th. The second 10 episodes are expected to air in the Spring of 2011. Unless the cable channel comes up with a replacement, this will mark the first time since 2002 that a Stargate series hasn’t aired on Syfy (previously known as the Sci-Fi Channel).
Stargate Universe follows a diverse exploration team who is unable to return to Earth after evacuating to a Ancient spaceship that’s headed to a distant part of the universe. The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na.
Here’s the official statement from Syfy…
Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011. The Stargate franchise — consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe — has aired on Syfy since 2002.
Syfy has a slate of new sci-fi/fantasy scripted projects lined up for 2011 including the series premiere of Being Human on January 17, the recently green lit one-hour drama series Alphas and the much anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel pilot movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven will also return with new seasons next year.
It’s unclear if the final 10 episodes of Stargate Universe will give closure to the series.
What do you think? Are you sorry that SGU is coming to an end? Do you think the ongoing storylines will be resolved?
Stargate is a great show stargate sg1 being the best Atlantis was good too I didn’t overlea enjoy stargate universe let’s get back to sg1 type of show get off the boring no action spaceship and get the team traveling through the gates having real adventures with some full on action like sg1 and Atlantis. Universe to be fair was sometimes like watching paint dry was like star trek. Make a new season like stargate sg1 the original the one we all grew to love and lets explore the new worlds in the new galaxy’s. Make a new season sack… Read more »
I do hope they do continue on with the series this is one of the best Stargates they have done i have been a big fan for many years and if they do not continue this series on after the final 10 of season 2 i will pretty much be done with syfy
i can not believe they canseled the show!!!!!!! what are they going to have? restling? gost hunters? is it posible another chenell can pick it up? i’m totaly hart brocken ….
Thank reality TV. Every time you watch Snookie act stupid or Dog act like a bonehead, the networks take another dollar away from great shows like SGU. After all reality TV costs one tenth the cost of a descent program, with real actors and effects and music. Where does the extra money go you wonder?!? The networks hide it away in Snookies thighs, like a squirrel with a nut. BOYCOTT REALITY TV!!
I believe we’re suffering from the effects of ‘new technology versus old ratings data collection.’ Neilsen Ratings and others who track viewer preference have yet to effectively measure the new ways people watch shows – particularly those people who embrace and utilize technology to its full advantage on cell phones, computers, DVRs and Xbox/Playstation downloads or Netflix/Blockbuster rentals. Unfortunately, those of us who watch SyFy are demographically more inclined to be tech geeks. *Sigh*
Syfy has nothing but crap programming. I went to the channel for Stargate & Battlestar. Now that both series ties have been cancelled, so to is my interest in flipping to this channel. SGU & Caprica both were a couple of maybe a handful of shows I would tune in to network TV to watch. This is why I dont get excited about anything not coming from HBO, SHO or Starz. Here’s the deal Syfy, you make a show, run it for 5 years and then I’ll consider purchasing the DVD’s so atleast I know I can get attached to… Read more »
They kill gen then they kill the show
if they had a goose that laid gold eggs they would
kill it looking for the eggs.
do they have any idea what there doing at all or do they
just like making fans sick
for me it is the last straw I am done watching there garbage
they have screwed this die hard si-fi fan for the last time
If they cancle SGU I will not be watching their shows any more. They have been getting away from what SyFi Network should be all about.
This will be the last straw…
I think SGU is a great show with a great storyline. Syfy keeps going down the tube with its trashy shows that no one would watch. I love the SG1, SGA, and SGU series but I guess we’re stuck with putting in a DVD as there is nothing to watch on TV.
Great job Syfy! Cancel one of my favorite shows…again! Other than sanctuary (which is getting pretty good) this was the only other series I watch. I fear the worst is happening to this series SG1 was 10 years SGA 5 and SGU 2….whats next nothing?!?!?! Please make the SGA movie for everyone who has been loyal to this show! I feel you at least owe us this much after 17 years!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is the most stupid thing SyFy can do,You know Stargate SG-1 lasted for 10 years then came along Stargate Atlantis That only lasted for 5 yrears and I believe this came about when SyFy changed their name. I’ve been watching the Stargate Series now for 17 years and I’m not ready to give them up. So whether or not SyFy keeps the Stargate Series going, I hope some other channel picks them up. Giving that I do like Eureka,Haven and warehouse 13 they will Probaly do away with them too. So I dont mind changing channels to… Read more »
This is another example of SyFy cancelling worthwhile, well written shows in favor of meaningless pap (wrestelling, anyone?? what the hell is up with that!!!). The entire week the whole family used to look forward to watching ‘sifi fridays’, back when Stargate was at it’s peak. Now, they have their shows scattered all about, and don’t even pay attention to the viewers when it comes to their shows – they (the syfy exec’s who make these decisions) need to realize it can take 5-10 years to see how a long story arc works out, they need to understand there are… Read more »
perhaps networks should be dependent on fanbase like the voting on Dancing With the Stars. Viewers WOULD vote for their favorite shows en masse…I’m wearing of getting involved in really GREAT shows ONLY TO see them cancelled in a year or two.
I think networks don’t pay attention to the fan-base at all!
Oh, I think they listened to you, in fact… I’m pretty sure they heard all 3 of you. Stargate was never supposed to be a dark show – wtf was this garbage anyway? A replacement for the prematurely cancelled BSG? Let’s hope the next reboot doesn’t hit so far from the bullseye!
Without a doubt they’ve done it again. If they cancel this show then I will have no use for there station. Great show, great actors and good story. The ONLY reason I even watch there station. Oh well, I’ll watch the last 10 episodes and then just delete it from my channel list since I know everything on it is not really worth my time. Good luck to the cast, maybe they can find work at another station that has competent employers.
