The new series on FX, Terriers, has been garnering some solid reviews. But, how did it do in the ratings? Should it continue for many years or be put to sleep…er, cancelled?
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
Per the overnight ratings, the Terriers premiere looks to be underwhelming at best. The debut attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 1.6 million total viewers. While cable ratings are typically smaller than those of the major networks, FX has seen much better.

To put it in perspective, in September 2008, Sons of Anarchy debuted to a 1.2 rating in the key demo and 2.53 million viewers. This past March, Justified’s premiere brought in a 1.5 demo rating and 4.15 million.
Even Nip/Tuck, which had sharply declined over the years, averaged a 0.8 in the demo and 1.7 million viewers for its final season — in the same Wednesday night timeslot.
So, Terriers has gotten off to a very poor start. FX is planning to pair repeats with new installments of Sons of Anarchy. It seems doubtful but maybe this will help. Right now, it doesn’t look like Terriers will survive past its first season of 13 episodes.
But, what do you think? Is Terriers worth watching or should it be cancelled? Cancel or keep it?

My favorite new show. I hope fx keeps it running. Great characters, drama, comedy everything needed to make a great show.
I Love Terriers. I want my wife to watch it, but it’s not on ‘on demand with fios. They keep the crap shows and cancel the good ones.
Love Terriers show. I think all the characters are great but I really love the main character and how he betrays his character. He is such a great guy. Hopefully this show will continue.
I love this show, and I hope FX makes the decision to keep the show on the air and make new episodes. I am sure that in time more the show will gain more viewers.
FX should keep Terriers!! The characters are fun and complex, the story lines are evenly paced and the larger plot is woven in in such a way that it’s kept at the forefront, but isn’t the only thing going on in the show. One of my favorite tangential characters is the sister!
This show has the goods! Keep Terries alive!!!!!!
This show is great! The characters show a charisma that has been lacking in many TV shows of late. I always look forward to the next episode.
This show gets better with every episode. Last week was great. Dalworth is a real life hero. He is the kind of hero that actually exist in this world.
Terriers is just amazingly good, easily the best new show of this season. The characters are surprisingly deep and interesting, something almost entirely non-obvious if you just watch part of an episode. Or really, if you just watch the pilot, which was good, but the depth doesn’t really show until after the first two or, better, three.
Give it a shot if you haven’t already. It’ s really, really good, and with both entertain you and tug at your heart.
This is a great show. I think maybe it should be moved to Mondays or the weekend. or even change the name. Why do they always remove the good shows and keep the boring ones. Give it a chance. People will love it!!!!
This show is great, they shouldn’t cancel it.
I applaud them for at least giving us 13 episodes
so I can pick up the DVD set…unlike father Fox
and the doomed but good Lone Star.
We initially started watching these series because we live in the real Ocean Beach community in San Diego and wanted to see the scenes shot in our area and note iconic buildings, etc. But once we watched the first episode, we really enjoyed the drama and characters as much as seeing familiar scenes. As other reviewers have noted, none of the characters can easily be pegged as one type or another and all are interesting. The plots have kept us engaged and we look forward to seeing this program every week. That really says a lot for us as we… Read more »
My husband and I love this show – it is smart and funny and quirky enough to not be predictable. We hope it continues and does not get cancelled like Prison Break – we loved PB and miss it. BTW the “Telly Savalas” black cop (Rockmond Dunbar) played “C-Note” on Prison Break.
Donal Logue is great on Terriers – we love the way he and his partner interact. Terrific show – we really look forward to it.
Love the show! Sounds like more of the problem with the viewing network is that too many people can’t access the show due to their cable carriers! Watch it on HULU! I love this show!
I wasn’t so sure with the first one but the more I watched the more I liked the acting and the supporting cast. Not so sure of the Telly Savalas black cop who has the cigar tip in his mouth in place of the lolly pop but it also has a better written script than most of the crap on the tube.
Absolutely love this show,,,watch it over and over again on On Demand.
