Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

My favorite TV show this season. Thanks to all who helped make it happen. Sad to hear they may not be more…
Great acting. Great writing. Comedic. Edgy.
No wonder it didn’t catch on with “mainstream America”
I didn’t know about the show until a friend of mine told me about it. I started watching and fell right into it. Smart dialogue, believable scenarios, the only thing is the lead character is not the handsom leading man type, kinda like me scraggy beard and all, But he is good actor. If more promo was used maybe?
Terriers was for grown ups: no significant special effects, not a lot of bad language, a plot, no kids, no pretty people, no fancy cars, no weekly shootouts. In all it fell short of the video game quality necessary to engage the moron demographic to whom networks cater. Much like A&E with the Rubicon decision, FX has demonstrated that if you have half a brain, rent old movies or read.
I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY CANCELLED TERRIERS I LOVED THAT SHOW. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! BRING THAT SHOW BACK.
Every time a good show comes on TV the shut it down and that’s just ******** no you know what it is its grade A douchebaggery. For one they had a great cast, story, theme the show was one of the greats all i know is that if FX ever even tries to cancel the show Son Of Anarchy I will find the one responsible and i will beet him he will never want to cancel another show again. And you all might think that I’m crazy or some other bull **** well i don’t give a dam lol. 🙂… Read more »
Out of all the new shows this year , this is the one I was hoping would be picked up for a season 2 . It was a joy to watch every week , it was well written , well acted , had great character chemistry , the characters were likeable well rounded creations that you cared about and wanted to follow on their journeys and struggles . Although this decision has not come as a shock , it is a shame , anyone that never caught the show has missed out . I have no idea how FX advertised… Read more »
loved the show, thought it was one of the few quality shows on television
“Terriers” was a great show and will be missed. The Hank Dolworth character was particularly good.
This is an unfortunate cancellation. I’m afraid that FX wasn’t able to market their way out from behind the semi-clever but basically off-putting title of the series.
I’m an older lady and I loved the show. Can’t believe they cancled it…I looked forward to the show every week. This is the only tv series I have ever watched faithfully. Do hope enough people ask for them to bring it back!!!!!!!!
this is bullshitt i loved terriers and michael raymond james is sexyy(: i really hope they change there minds cause it was funny, sexy, and it was truely an amazing show i mean i got excited everytime i watched it!
I really liked the chemistry between the characters and, in a world filled with so-called “reality” shows, Terriers was one of the few true hour-long pieces of entertainment. The story line always zigged when you thought it would zag and even though FX pulled the plug, I have no regrets calling myself a fan. Sit and spin, FX, you missed out on this one…
Im from SD and Terriers was suc a great show with great actors portraying great characters that we as the viewers actaully cared about. FX you guys need to make it right and bring back terriers. Its story is something different that we really ge to see as viewers. I mean you guys have a show about a boxer’s story, I mean really like that has not been done before. Bring back Terriers and promote it so people know about it!!
What? This has got to be the best TV show I have watched all year. The last three episodes were awesome. The season ender was outstanding. I loved the way they explained Hanks earlier days as a cop and mixed it with the present day Hank. Hank and Brit were a great team. I am really disappointed that this show is canceled. BIG MISTAKE FX.
I am very upset to learn that they have decieded to cancel the show. To me, every episode kept you in supense that you couldn’t wait for the next show. Why would they end the first season not knowing what Britt deciedes to do…. jail or Mexico? In my opinion, I don’t think it matters if the show is on FX, because FX has some really great shows that have a lot of veiwers….. i.e. Sons of Anarchy & Nip Tuck (when it was on). This show was about, to me, two men who were average people. No matter how… Read more »
