The end is coming for The Bonnie Hunt Show after two seasons on the air. Hosted by actress and comedian Bonnie Hunt, the Warner Bros. syndicated show has been struggling in the ratings essentially since it debuted.
The series has stayed on the air for two seasons mainly because NBC-owned stations had made a two-year deal. Warners could have pulled the plug last spring but instead showed faith and hoped that ratings would improve. Now that the agreement is coming to an end, so is The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Hunt reportedly gave the bad news to her staff on Monday morning but the cancellation wasn’t officially confirmed until last night.
By all accounts, the daytime series will remain in production and complete the season so there are lots of new episodes to come.
What do you think? Why did the show fail? Is there no room for more than a couple of daytime talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show? Or, is there something lacking in Hunt’s show?

Bonnie Hunt has a delightful talk show, filled with warmth and humor and honesty.
It’s a perfect daytime show, and you feel uplifted by its wholesomeness and sincerity.
Perhaps it wasn’t in the right time slot. It’s my favorite daytime show and I will miss
Bonnie’s sunshine!
Love the Bonnie Hunt Show. It’s real and down to earth. EVEN MY HUSBAND ENJOYS IT. Good luck, Bonnie!!
How sad. Bonnie was such a breath of fresh air. I love her girl-next-door approach and her unassuming attitude — how lively unpreditable and fun . Where else do we have that! We’ve got Regis and Kelly with the bragging over and over and over of whose big party they attended last night (Gag) and then there is Ellen’s self-absorption. And why would anyone waste their time or Letterman or Jay? With Bonnie, we had a gal who loved her audience and shared real life with us. I can only imagine what we’ll get in her place!
My favorite talk show is gone. I’m so sad. :0(
Next to Ellen DeGeneres, Bonnie Hunt was the funniest TV host on daytime television. Her show was topical, funny and lively. She made me laugh, just because she was everydaywoman, with the same stupid/funny/awkward moments in her life that you or I have. That is the real shame, because if people had really watched, listened, and enjoyed the show for exactly what it was – a very funny piece of everyday life – it would still be on the schedule for next fall. The older generation rues the day television came to be. I rue the day MTV came to… Read more »
I don’t mind NBC putting Leno back on TV because I stopped watching him a couple of years ago. But Bonnie Hunt is another story. This is a real family show that anyone can watch, laugh, and enjoy. She’s got talent as a talk show host…a female Johnny Carson . I hope another station will let her continue with the same format. I can only imagine the kind of crap will be on to replace her.
I absolutely cannot believe this! I am shocked and crushed that they would take her off. I wish I didn’t work so I could watch her every day. This is so sad to me; I am devastated. She is so warm, inviting, authentic, loving, funny, and pretty. I hope a cable channel picks her up; this show should go on and on. Big mistake NBC!
This was a wonderful, family feeling show with class and insight for the important things, such as compassion for people, homeless pets, cancer research and just plain family values–what?–family values?–guess just the folks who love this show understand what family values really are. When we finally have to say goodbye to this wonderful show I hope all the execs who think they know better get a rash on their you-know-what and scratch till they get a little smarter!!! The Bonnie Hunt Show and my local news were the only show I watch on NBC–they won’t be getting my vote or… Read more »
Unbelievable! Can’t wait to see what kind of trash you replace her with. I love that she was different than all of the other daytime hosts. He wit and charm surpasses them all. Get rid of Martha Steward Show, now, she’s a pill and so is her show. I hope another network picks Bonnies show up. I really did appreciate her show.
For two years i have watched this wonderful, wonderful show. this talk show was different from any other,i can’t imagine why it didn’t have higher ratings,if everybody watched it just once, they would stayed tuned for the ride. I will miss Bonnie very much. She was the a refreshing start to my days. Thank you Bonnie and staff for making me smile on days when i thought i didn’t have it in me. And not to forget Alice, we have all seen why Bonnie is such a beautiful soul, it was passed down. So thank you Bonnie, your a class… Read more »
What a great show! I am so saddened by this! I cannot believe I am one of only 3 people to comment on this. Bonnie Hunt is a real, warm, caring person! And her show and staff are hilarious without being vulgar! Cancelling her show makes me want to stop watching tv altogether! 🙁
Bonnie is clearly loved by a of people. Maybe there’s a place for her on cable since the networks have so little to offer these days. One reader commented on a comparison to Jay Leno. After all the hoopla about Jay getting his late night spot back, I decided to watch the show after a long hiatus. I have never been so bored. Talk about someone who needs to go. But a qaulity host like Bonnie is lost to us? Who makes these crazy decisions?
I am saddened to know that the Bonnie Hunt show is being cancelled. She and her crew are very refreshing and add a bright spot to my day. It is nice to watch a show that has family values, the respect for her mom, and her dedication to helping pets that need to be adopted. Also, her helping the cancer center in Chicago, and her support of people she comes across during her daily life, such as the waiter that she gave a chance to sing and fulfill a dream, the audience member that came to the show and she… Read more »
How very short sited;; Bonnie Hunt; is very up lifting, funny and great Hostess… You dopes in charge of shows that are CLEAN, Fun and have the audience of myself and many older retired persons;;; seems our Dollars don’t count in your Narrow little minds… Love of Greed, and no thoughts of what decent people really want on T V. I’m to carefully check each program, and will Never Watch any program Warner Bros, and NBC, put out there…. have ended watching anything Disney is connected with, because of the disgusting power play the Day of Academy Awards Show…we have… Read more »
Took the time to go back and read some of the older posts. Loved and agreed with Super Nana!! Do the producers think it’s not a show unless there is foul mouth, sex, suggestive dress and shallow gossip? Bonnie appeals to a huge group of viewers who have a formidable amount of real, accessible money. I watch good shows, therefore, I watch and buy the products offered by the people who make these good shows available. Simple as that. And I, along with just about everyone I know, watch Bonnie Hunt! She is fun, honest, down to earth….a breath of… Read more »
Iknow why it was cancelled. It showed no bare boobs or butts. It allowed no swearing or disgusting comments. Where is TV land going? How do we tell the networks we’d like to see more than divorce court and fake shows like Jerry S…….! Help! Someone must know who to call?
