The end is coming for The Bonnie Hunt Show after two seasons on the air. Hosted by actress and comedian Bonnie Hunt, the Warner Bros. syndicated show has been struggling in the ratings essentially since it debuted.
The series has stayed on the air for two seasons mainly because NBC-owned stations had made a two-year deal. Warners could have pulled the plug last spring but instead showed faith and hoped that ratings would improve. Now that the agreement is coming to an end, so is The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Hunt reportedly gave the bad news to her staff on Monday morning but the cancellation wasn’t officially confirmed until last night.
By all accounts, the daytime series will remain in production and complete the season so there are lots of new episodes to come.
What do you think? Why did the show fail? Is there no room for more than a couple of daytime talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show? Or, is there something lacking in Hunt’s show?

Almost everyday I talk to someone who adores this show. We get it at 11am but my sister sees it at 3. I find it very hard to beleive it had such low ratings that Warner Brothers canceled it. Not to mention almost each & every guest she had on were also in her fan club….Bummer for us all!!!
I am so sorry to see this show go off the air. Bonnie has a clean, funny and very enjoyable show. It’s too bad that crap like Jerry Springer stays on and someone with class is removed. Maybe that is what’s wrong with our world today…too much crap. I watch the show every morning and Bonnie, you will be greatly missed. Like most all others, I hope someone else will pick up your show. PS I love the way you include all of your staff.
I am a faithful viewer of the Bonnie Hunt Show. To see it come to an end saddens me. It was truly a great show. Very family friendly. I never had to woory about it’s content. She is truly a good soul. TV will be lacking without her. Funny how someone all american can get cancelled but shows like Maury and Springer stick around forever. I guess it shows the direction America is taking. Then people wonder what is happening to our youth.
I so agree with you. Springer should have been long gone and Bonnie should stay.
My grandparents, 87 and 88, watch Bonnie in their home every day. They enjoy the good clean fun and wholesome entertainment that Bonnie offers. They love the ask Alice segment and thanks to them we all DVR’d Bonnie every day. We are hoping that Bonnie gets picked up soon!
It failed because Network execs are still looking for the slezy crap that most talkshows are today. This one is clean and funny. You don’t have to worry about the kids seeing it, and it’s not filled with stupid people arguing with their spouses, families and sex partners. The crew obviously like each other and aren’t shouting over each other to make their opinion heard. The guests are interesting, the charities real, the laughs aren’t gotten at someones expense and the feel good moments really are just that. I’ll take Bonnie over Maury, Jerry, Tyra, and The View any day.… Read more »
I watch Bonnie every day. One of the only decent shows left on TV and now they are taking it away. Very sad. Bonnie will be very much missed. There is something very down to earth about her that the rest do not have.
I like Ellen and I wanted to like her show but just don’t care for it. I like Oprah and do enjoy her show. I watch it from time to time. But Bonnie had me entranced from the first time I tuned in. She is like that one food you love that also happens to be good for you. I enjoy everything about her show –her set, her guests who seem much more at ease and likeable when talking to her, her staff who are all superb at seeming more like an extended fun family than crew, her cute little… Read more »
Bonnie’s show is very enjoyable. I am so sad to see this show go. I watched or taped it every day for two seasons, but I knew it would be cancelled because the networks have unreal expectations. We have seen it over and over again. Do not get attached to a show that competes with Ellen or Oprah because it will not last. No one will probably EVER have the ratings that Oprah and Ellen have. Anything you replace it with will have low ratings too. The networks make us love a show and then they summarily take it away!
There is no substance to this show. It sucks. Glad to see it go.
Cannot comprehend. Do not understand – it was the BEST, consistently positive show on day time. Better than Ellen and Oprah – in my estimation. Because of the added delights – like Ask Alice and her “boys”/crewmembers sitting on the couch issuing out advice to the audience. And Don Lake’s humor? Wow – that’s some combo right there – Bonnie and Don. Made me laugh until I cried many a time. And they way she highlighted and complimented all of her crew – consistently – during the run of her show. What a delight she must have been to work… Read more »
I was very disappointed to hear that she was cancelled. Her show is a good show. I love her sense of humor & she is so funny. I think she should not have been cancelled. There are other shows that should be not hers.
I am so disappointed… I work full time but I dvr to watch Bonnie. I love her sense of humor and her huge heart!
I cannot believe this show is being cancelled. It is by far the funniest and best daytime talk show on television today. The ratings may not be what the network expected, but what kind of show are they going to put on in its place? Another cookie cutter talk show like Ellen or worse yet Oprah. Whatever it is I won’t be watching it unless Bonnie Hunt is hosting. Like the old saying…you don’t how good you have it until you no longer have it. Big mistake!!
Bonnie I will truly miss your show. I don’t understand the ratings game. A quality show is a quality show and yours is QUALITY!! I love the segments with your Mom and how close you are to your family. You are not one of those airhead Hollywood Blondes. Yours is the only show I watch on the local ABC station that carries it here in the Tampa Bay, FL area. My heart is breaking along with many others and I want to thank you for being YOU! Funny, sweet and caring.
Sincerely, Marjorie
I am a stay-at-home Dad, and could not find a TV show to watch during the day. Until the Bonnie Hunt Show, it made be laugh and enjoy the day. The show is real and down to earth, everyday life funny little stories. Hopefully another TV station will pick up The Bonnie Hunt Show and I can continue to have a good , down to earth, real life laugh each day. A person can watch sports , but you still need a good laugh each and every day. Bonnie thank you for making my day a little better each day,… Read more »
I watched this wonderful show at noon for a long time. Then it was gone and I didn’t see any mention of where the station had moved it to. When I discovered it was on later, I put it on my dvr list and watched it every night. Bonnie is the best tv host and compares with Johnny Carson as real, funny, loveable and down to earth. What a bad decision NBC made. I will not watch that station after Bonnie’s last show and pray that some other station is smart enough to pick up this great hour of entertainment.
