The peacock network has decided to cut their season order of The Cape from 13 to 10 episodes. Production of the TV series will shut down this week, the latest sign that the show will be cancelled.
The Cape follows Vince Faraday (David Lyons), an honest cop who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family (Jennifer Ferrin, Ryan Wynott) and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their home city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.
The series has been a disappointment for NBC in the ratings and Monday’s numbers were the worst so far. The TV series debuted on January 9th with a special two-hour event that attracted a decent 2.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.45 million total viewers. Eight days later, episode three of The Cape dropped a huge 30% in the demo, to a 1.8 rating and 6.22 million. Episode four’s ratings fell another 11% to a 1.6 demo rating and 5.84 million viewers. Monday’s hit a new low with a 1.5 and 5.343 million.

The show currently averages a 1.9 in the demo and 6.46 million viewers. After just five episodes, it’s become one of the lowest-rated scripted series on the network, tying with Chuck.
For months, NBC has had The Event slated to return to the Mondays at 9pm timeslot on February 28th. When that happens, only eight episodes of The Cape will have aired. Word is that the network is considering delaying The Event for another week to finish off The Cape’s season. If that doesn’t happen, it seems unlikely that NBC will find a place to air the leftover pair of episodes.
It’s even more unlikely that The Cape will be renewed for a second season or end with any kind of resolution.
What do you think? Is The Cape doomed to be cancelled? What could have been done differently? Is it better than The Event?
UPDATE: NBC has delayed the return of The Event by one week. Episodes nine and 10 of The Cape are expected to air on February 28th, finishing the season.

Nbc sucks bring the cape back!!!!!!!
Stupid nbc their just like fox when they cancelled the firefly series hello serenity the movie hopefully they will get smart if they want people to watch they should advertise better.
But hey im sure NBC will go out of business once “Michael” from the office leaves….cuz idk if people know but he kinda makes the show
I loved the cape so much it was really great and its bs that Nbc says the ratings suck, but what they dont take into account is the millions of people like myself that cant watch it at that time so i watch it on hulu. i am extremely frustrated that NBC could do that to such a good show and now im left here confused and feel abused at all the hours i spend watching a great show for them to not even get to finish it.
i dont understand why nbc cancelled it it was the best show ever and for what some other stupid show come on nbc didnt even let it finish only air 10 episode that why we the viewer get mad and dont even watch nbc for what this for that nbc should have made a movie it would have been better then 10 episode i say put the show back on and give it a chance and change the time and ill bet it would do better and think nbc should because with out us the viewer their no nbc and… Read more »

so i was a lover of heros and it was awesome, than the writers got lazy and didnt kill people off like they were supposed to. So they cancelled it… so here i am with the rest of the million viewers who are actually liking this new hero and they dont even give him the chance to stand out yet! i was just starting to warm up to NBC again WTF?! they have 13 episodes let them air! the story hasnt even really begun! they could take it so many ways…. its a dissappointment and if this show ends i… Read more »
The last show of the Cape was shown on the internet only-to bad it had great promise.
this is rediculios we didnt even get to see him get his wife n kids back i love the cape this is the second time this has happend they did it it with eastwick a while back also its BS theres still alot off people out there who like this show im done with nbc **** The Event
I really enjoyed watching The Cape every monday night and then it wasn’t there anymore and I was so disappointed. I won’t know now if he ever gets his wife and son back. I sure hope I will get to see how it ended someday. Or I hope they will re-show the episodes on TV sometime in the future and I will get to see this series come to a good ending. Did I missed the last episode or was it never shown? Too bad as it was such a good story.
The Cape was a great show! It gave comic book lovers something to watch instead of all these stupid reality tv shows. NBC dropped the ball on this one maybe this why CBS kicks there butts in ratings, because they know a good thing when they see it!
Hmmm maybe the reason nbc didnt get any ratings for this show is because the average tv viewer realizes that they really shouldnt bother investing any time or interest on any non reality tv show aired on the “old” network stations since they are bound to be cancelled as soon as you develop a fondness for the the characters and/or the storyline simply because they only managed to get 6.5 million people to watch it (hmm i remember when 6.5mil people was a fairly good quantity of interest). Quite frankly these days i refuse to watch much of anything on… Read more »
