TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
KEEP KEEP KEEP!! Love this show!! The cast is great and the story lines are awesome for family TV night!!!
Keep it! Keep it!
Please keep The Librarians…it’s a great show and deserves another season to build an audience.
Keep it, stop throwing away the good shows
I think the show the Librarians is one of the best shows to hit TNT since Rizzoli and Isles
Absolutely keep it. This a fantastic family show. My girls love watching it a a family. They even have written down the topics to go find books on the show topics. I absolutely say KEEP KEEP. It sucks that perception was cancelled. I wish that the programmers would be realistic about shows. Instead of going head to head with number 1 shows find time slots that will have a better shot.
Definitely keep it!!!
Keep the show going….
Yes, keep it but as two or more movies a year, like before. I own all the Librarian movies.
Keep it! I really like the show.
Keep it!! As a real life librarian, I love that it makes having and using your brain cool. And Christian Kane?? What’s not to love?
Keep the show!!! My house loves it!!
KEEP IT!!!!! It is wonderful entertainment!!!!
Keep!!!!
KEEP! It new, fresh and family fun. Even more important is the fact that there are extra little tidbits of history mixed in so kids are learning and they don’t even know it. I want something I can watch with my son.
