TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Re-New this series! I am sooo tired of CSI shows and cop shows and all the other reality crap on TV. This series has brought back a sense of adventure, mystery and for all intents and purposes….FUN! Please RE-NEW ‘THE LIBRARIANS’!

i would love for the librarians to come back for another season. It’s well cast and fun to watch. I’m sick of reality tv, I already live in reality, don’t need to watch it on tv. I like the fantasy aspect. Keep it going!
Love The Librarians one of the best shows on TV now. Told my grandkids (teens and pre-teens) about it and now they and their parents love it also. Great show! Get the word out and you’ll have a major hit.
LOVE this series, watched the movies and was so excited to see it made into a series! I don’t have cable and watched 1st show online. Totally hooked me. Been bugging my girlfriend (she has cable) every week since, just so I can see it!!!!! Will watch again and again when/if it is released to Netflex, but am hoping for many more seasons to follow.
