TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep it. It’s fun! We enjoy it over here in Ireland.
Keep Keep Keep!
please renew!
KEEP IT! Please and thank you. with extra pleases.
I really hope The Librarians does not get cancelled! It is one of the few TNT shows that I still watch. Its funny, imaginative, and exciting! The cast has great chemistry! There are some shows that start out interesting, but by the end I fund them dull and predictable, but The Librarians is NOT one of those shows! I hope there are many more seasons, and gag reels for every season they release on DVD!
KEEP IT! I loved having a show on that crossed multiple generations of my family, for people with wisely varying tastes, that engulfed my inner geek with myth magic and wonderful characters!
great show and it’s so nice to see Christian Kane back on my tv screen! Don’t take him away!!!’ Keep it!!!
Keep it!

KEEP!! I just absolutely love The Librarians. It is such a funny and positive show that is great for not only individuals but also families. My family and I look forward to sitting down and watching it each week, so we all are praying it will get renewed for another awesome season! Christian Kane is a brilliant and hilarious actor–we loved him in Leverage! So, RENEW THE LIBRARIANS Y’ALL! 🙂
Another season please!!! I need it!! It’s a great show that everyone can watch & enjoy!!
Keep it! It is a delightful blend of my favorite shows of Leverage, Warehouse 13 and Dr. Who.
If TNT does not renew the librarian’s they are crazy. I hope the are smart enough to look at the ratings they are the highest on Sunday. If they don’t let’s hope syfy channel will. But I can’t believe they won’t.
