TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep it! I love the show and I love seeing Christian Kane back on TV!
It is very rare to find a show that the entire family can watch together. Please renew.
Please keep the Librarians as it is a fun show with magic and unrealistic things and that makes it a fun show that you love to watch by just relaxing and enjoying the show. I wish there were more of these shows instead of drama all the time. It has to be on longer for some shows to get noticed and liked but this one is different. Just like Once upon a time stuff like that don’t really happen in real life just like the Librarians. We wish they happened but they don’t it is a way that we can… Read more »
Pls keep Librarians going!

This is the first show that is important enough for me to ask not to be canceled. Please renew for second season, it is the only show my family gathers together to watch. Thank you.
Renew it. Nice that children can watch it with me if they want. Enjoy the actors, too!
Entertaining tv program that doesn’t use profanity or back stabbing situations to promote ratings. Love the diverse team and story lines. Thank you!
I love this show. It’s funny, dramatic, and loving all at once. Please renew it for another season. The Librarians finally puts something fun on television to watch.
please keep making episodes as I am really enjoying the show
I love the Librarians. It is a fun and different show. Everytime i like something
you cancel it!! Be different.Give things a chance.
great show! Witty, charming, and fun…definitely a keeper.
KEEP IT !! This is a fresh and exciting new series, and the premise leaves writers with an unlimited amount of material options. The characters have fleshed out well, and are growing and evolving nicely. Most shows grow dull due to repetition and lack of new material. Here you have an open arena for the writers to work in .
Keep the Librarians.. Lots of adventure and fun just like the movies..
