TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Please keep The Librarians on air !! It is a fun show with a great set of characters from different backgrounds who learn to work together. Story lines are fun and it I really enjoyable. The finale looked like a series finale but I hope to see it on the roster again soon.

I love this show and I pray and hope for a second and third, fourth, even fifth or more seasons. This is a great Show, it is well written and excellently acted. And I am also a Kaniac, and I love seeing Christian Kane on my tv every Sunday on TNT. You know? He is an excellent actor.
Please renew this show! It is so much fun, and is one of the few shows on television I can watch with my whole family. My son and I always watch it together. Over Christmas my family visited and we all sat together, three generation, enjoying the same show.
I really hope they renew this series. It’s one of the best on TV right now. Sure its a bit silly, but thats part of the fun and keeps the continuity from the movies (which I adored). I also hope we see more of Noah Wyle, as he is the heart of the show. He brings a whole other element to the episodes he is in. Wonderful family entertainment! We need more shows like this one.
