TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

The Librarians is good family TV, which we don’t have a lot of these days. Bring it back!!!!!
LOVE IT. Please keep it. It is a show my WHOLE FAMILY watches!! My 16 year old son loves the show and we LOVE Christian Kane as Jacob Stone.

One of the few shows on TNT I can watch with my whole family. We would be sad to not see it come back. TNT in recent years has shown a lack of good sense concerning renewing (or not) shows. I hope the people responsible have been re-assed to less strenuous duties and the network can show its quality.
I liked the original Librarian series of specials but this spinoff tv show is just bad tv. I think it’s interesting that TNT is cleaning house because except for Franklin&Bash there was nothing worth watching on the channel anymore. TNT, TBS, and USA use to be THE channels when it came to basic cable tv shows and now TNT and TBS aren’t even worth having and USA is following closely behind them on the way out the door.

I hate to say renew it… they always seem to cancel the shows I love. But this is a fine show and deserving of a much broader audience, and time to really spread its wings. The cast is good and the show is different and fun…and if they want edgy, it has the potential to be everything they want while keeping a lot of fans very happy. RENEW
Bring it Back! Love this show. I can’t always tune in on Sunday so I bought the series on Amazon and am looking forward to buying season 2.

With “reality” wasteful TV everywhere, The Librarians is a welcome and enjoyable change. According to my demographics seem to the think all I’m interested in is stupidity TV. Please be one of the few shows that I and my family can enjoy. Please keep the shows coming.
The Librarians not only boasts an excellent cast,great stories and effects but is one of the best fantasy programmes on tv at the moment. It has found its stride during season 1 and deserves season 2 and beyond. I really hope it gets the run a great show like this deserves.
