TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Please keep! Love that show! Love all the actors…Christian Kane (favorite)!
By the Gods, KEEP IT!!!
Please renew it! It’s as good as or better than anything else on TV. If they want better rankings, they should try it on a night/time slot when it’s not up against NFL football. Put it on a Monday, when everything on tv is crap.
Keep!!!!!!!!
Must keep!
Keep it!!!! I’m so tired of the demographics bs. why doesn’t everyone count as viewership! I’m so ticked off about Perception also, I hadn’t heard till now!!! There isn’t hardly anything good on TV anymore it’s either reality trash or just down rite filth and if TNT wants to jump on the bandwagon I’ll be jumping off!!!
KEEP!!!!!!!
PLEASE keep this program, is different, entertaining and the best to watch at its time at home
Most definitely KEEP KEEP KEEP The Librarians and renew for another season. Brilliant show! Brilliant cast. Brilliant story lines. To axe another amazing sci-fi show like this in the long line of already axed shows of the past would be a travesty!!!!!!!
KEEP IT!! It’s got a good cast and great story line!!!
Please keep The Librarians! Absolutely LOVE the show!!!!
KEEP….KEEP….KEEP!!!!!
Keep it please Love the show
Keep it love the show
I love this show! It has so much potential and can be creepy, humorous, edged, and romantic on any given episode. I have enough gritty and dark dramas to watch. This show is a welcome break from that. I have already grown attached to the characters and would love to see how they continue to develop.
