Though HBO would likely like a fourth season of The Newsroom, the series is ending with a shortened third season (interviews indicate that Aaron Sorkin made the decision to make this the final season). Will it go out with great ratings or will it fizzle? We shall see.
The Newsroom follows the behind-the-scenes world at the fictional Atlantis Cable News (ACN) channel. The cast includes Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn, and Sam Waterston.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Final season averages: 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.34 million total viewers.

For reference: The second season of The Newsroom averaged a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.79 million viewers.
What do you think? Do you still like The Newsroom TV show? Do you think that the show should be ending? Would you like to see it return at some point?
i hate the canceling of the show and the death of charlie
I’d like to see it come back
I have just watched the final episode and have never experienced better television since my family bought its first one in 1952. This show was far and above one of the best ever tv shows. At some point in time, those of us who are not in the 18 to 49 age demographic, have to carry some clout. For God’s sake, get sponsors who sell incontinence products, etc. – do whatever it takes to keep quality television such as this on the air. Aaron Sorkin, I’m so sorry you decided to end this program early. You are and have been… Read more »
This is the best written and best cast on television. It is intelligent viewing different then anything else thought provoking on any recent series over the last decade. I truly hope they bring this back with this all star cast for another season, or 10…
How can they end this show? It’s such a crazy good cast with great chemistry.
Has anyone noticed how bad movies have become of late. There is a reason why they have to hype the.heck out of most movies. Most stink…so many poor movies are hitting theaters and its a shame that shows that develop their cast so well like Newsroom come to premature endings. Sorry to see it go but politics rules and ratings are king. i was never counted in the ratings, I watched on my iPad. So have others that can be numbered in the hundreds of thousands. It’s a shame. It was a true work of art.
We have been Aaron Sorkin fans ever since West Wing. This in our opinion is the best and smartest hour of TV on. Does this really mean that most viewers don’t want to invest in a program that you may have to pay attention and think of where it is taking you. We can only hope that Aaron will see how much we want the show to continue and invest in us.
This is a great show!! Can’t believe they are discontinuing a winner like this. They have cast that cannot be beaten, what are the’ powers’ thinking?
Great, great show. Typical though that HBO and Aaron decided to end it. Makes you really want to consider if the dough you spend on premium channels worthless. Might as well just watch Simpson reruns for free.
Newsroom best show on TV do not cancel – please
I loved the show and the acting is superb. I know Aaron Sorkin decided to end it early probably because of some political negativity. It is a shame, I wish it had at least a full season 3.
I loved The Newsroom. Of course some episodes have been stronger than others, but each one led our family to discussions of the events they addressed. I am very sad it is ending, whatever the reason. As a result of loving it so, we bought the complete set of West Wing and have been watching it again. Sorkin is a genius.
Please dont cancell it is one of the few shows on tv that is not mind dumbing and applies to today problem is the time slot is terrible it is two late at night for most the advertising for the show has been terrible and the short season with late starting date gets people interested in other programs I would bet if you saw how may dvr it as I do so I can watch it at a later time you might see better numbers I dont know News room has failed not because the show lacks but poor program… Read more »
Very disappointed the show is ending. Don’t understand why. Such a great show with fabulous acting. I loved the fast paced high drama stories. Bring it back! Please!
I didn’t feel the need to tune in for the first episode because I felt they wrapped up all of the loose ends at the end of last season. I will watch. I love the behind the scenes gathering of the news, but I’m in no hurry.
I thought it was HBO’s decision to end the Newsroom. I have to wonder if a show’s demise is announced in advance if folks just won’t tune in, won’t invest the time. Of course if it’s an insipid sitcom like How I Met Your Mother, well….that theory goes out the window.
From what I’ve read, it was Aaron Sorkin’s decision to end the show. It gets a lot of attention, is well-respected, has a big cast, and the ratings weren’t terrible for an HBO series. It took this long to get a third season because Sorkin couldn’t find the time to do it. I believe HBO would take another season if they could get it.
Actually from everything that I have read HBO did make a decision to end the Newsroom after Season 3 which will be the final season on HBO, of course if Aaron Sorkin wants to shop the show around possibly another network may pick it up.
Let’s hope he brings it to Netflix
