It seems not even magic couldn’t help bring the ratings up. The CW has cancelled The Secret Circle after one season of 22 episodes.
A supernatural series, The Secret Circle follows teenager Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) who, after moving to Chance Harbor, discovers that she is a witch and part of a young secret coven. The show also stars Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelly Hennig, Louis Hunter, Ashley Crow, and Natasha Henstridge.
When the season began, it looked like The CW had found the perfect match for their big hit, The Vampire Diaries. The premiere drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.05 million viewers. These days, those are excellent numbers for the smallest network.

In week two, the ratings dropped 31% but were still strong by CW standards. Unfortunately, over the course of the season, they have tumbled downward. They’ve gone as low as 0.5 rating with just 1.14 million viewers. Other CW shows were performing better and they didn’t have the advantage of having such a strong lead-in.
On our CW Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demographic numbers of shows on the network, The Secret Circle has a “B+” grade. That grade however is heavily reliant on the early season numbers and the show hasn’t been pulling those in months.
If The CW had renewed Secret Circle for a second season, the ratings would likely have been lower when it returned in the fall — lower still without a Vampire Diaries lead-in.
The CW has different standards for success than other networks and derives income from other sources beyond broadcast viewing. They also have just 10 hours of primetime space available. It just didn’t make sense to bring Secret Circle back for another season.
The series finale aired on last Thursday night, May 10th, so there won’t be any further resolution for the ongoing storylines.

I completely agree im a 23 year old male who loved the show the secret circle, i think we should boycott their network until they give the viewers what they actually want, not soaps that most of us dont watch because we have drama to deal with already in reality. The storyline was original, i gave up on the cw until i saw that show….the last thing that kept me on was smallville and somehow they kept that for ten seasons when everyone already knows how the superman story plays out…..very disappointing
I am very upset CW with the choices you have made, I watch a few of your shows, I had one for each day to watch Monday – Saturday. I think that it is Bullcrap that they canceled the show, especially after leaving the last episode wide open for the next season. I LOVED the show very much, The Secret Circle and Supernatural are by far my Favorite shows. I didn’t get hooked on Vamp diaries too much it seemed to always be the same ‘Ol same “Ol over and over. The CW is obviously full of morons. They cancel the ringer & the secret circle? 2 of their best shows! I loved Thursday nights cause of the vampire diaries and the secret circle. I looked at some of the shows they have coming now and I most likey won’t bother with any of them. Let’s just hope that the fuckers at CW get their heads out of their ass and realized they fucked up.

I lived TSC. I followed all the cast on Twitter and looked forward to each and every Thursday night. My husband has no interest in THe Vampire diaries, however he would watch The Secret Circle with me. My 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter even loved watching it. I live in Australia. So the only way I could watch was via online. I also have many friends who would also watch the show each week. I have spent years not bothering to even check out CW network. But this year I gave it a shot. Heart of Dixie, Ringer, and Secret Circle made me tune in each and every week. Even for reruns. I have not checked the status of Heart of Dixie yet, but see that both Secret Circle and Ringer are gone, as are my viewing hours spent bothering with this network. The CW always sucks me in with some new show that is awesome only to disappoint me by canceling the shows I love soon after. The only three shows that were of any value were The Secret Circle, Ringer & The Vampire Diaries. Everything else they produce sucks -BAD! I’m sure the reasoning behind their ridiculous decisions have more to do with manipulating ratings to attain funding/investments than it does with honest answers. Really CW? You keep crappy no plot line that makes sense 90210 but not TSC? Clearly over a million people is pretty good, and 91% of the poll on this site alone said it shouldn’t get cancelled. Im phasing out watching anything new anymore, the ones I like always get cancelled…..
I totally agree with you there, the shows I enjoy most always get cancelled. It’s Stupid, And I have to say I am deeply upset by the choice they have made. They always cancel the show after the season just starts getting more exciting and more better, And I deeply hate how they cancel it after the last episode is an on-going episode.

I am so upset that CW cancelled The Secret Circle. I loved it and watched it faithfully each week. i looked forward to myThursday night lineup. NOW..nothing. I don’t understand. I stopped watching the ringer, But got back into it, and I enjoyed every single moment of it, Then they decide to cancel it. I am very disappointed in their decisions.
I’m a 50-year-old woman and I LOVED “The Secret Circle”. I have a family, normal life, bla, bla, and yet this show totally captured me! The demographic group is much more varied than the CW realizes. I was so looking forward to a second season…
I am so mad. I love this show. It is very good. It should not be cancelled. If 1.4 million people watching isn’t good enough for you guys you are in serious trouble. There are 99 shows being cancelled and this is the only one out of them that I watch. You guys bite. I really wish you wouldn’t take it off. I am about ready to quit watching the CW, if it weren’t were for Vampire Diaries you can bet you sweet hine end I wouldn’t watch another thing on your station.
Damn straight i will miss the show. Are CW on crack? Everyone knows the old way of TV ratings is s#*t and they should just go by actual online views and social popularity. Hell, going by their Unique Browsers in Google Analytics would surely show them how popular the show is.

im so pissed they cancelled two of my favorite shows the secret circle was awesome, how dare they cancel on such a cliff hanger, we MUST know what happens with the valcoins! and then ringer, i had been waiting for so long for andrew to find out about brigit and he finally does and then they have the balls to cancel on us without us being able to know what happens next. i’m NOT happy, i’d boycott them if my third favorite tv show wasn’t the vamp diaries.
