After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
This was a great show and my husband and I loved to watch this. We are very disappointed that this show was cancelled. We were grateful for a show that was reasonable, funny, and mostly clean. It is sad to see it cancelled due to lack of viewership. Just from this page alone it is obvious how many people enjoyed it. If anyone is in a position to let a person in charge of Fox’s programming aware of how many people did love this show, please let them hear our voices on this matter. Thank you so much. We sincerely… Read more »
I can’t believe Fox has cancelled this show–we were aleady hooked..I am so disappointed I had told alot of people and they loved it. The move from Wed to Fri was a shock and confused many. Bring Wedding BELLS back please. I am so upset…it was really funny.
We all thought this was a couple week delay until I found this article online.
I can’t believe that you pulled this show. FOX PUT IT BACK ON!!!!!!! I watch Til Death and America Idol. These are the only shows I watch on your channel now.
So sad for you!
I LOVED this show I can’t believe that you took it off the air. My family couldn’t wait until 9:00 on Fridays to watch this show I am really bumbed about this. It doesnt make any sense. It was funny and clean show for everyone to watch maybe that was the problem it didnt have enough blood : (
You cannot be serious pulling this show! I love this show and I am very angry that this show was pulled. This is ridiculous….WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THESE NETWORKS. They wouldn’t know a good thing if it hit them in the face. American Idol has nothing on this show….I think this whole thing is pathetic…
Beyond disappointed. I really hope another network picks this one up….perhaps it’s too good for FOX!
can’t belive u put drive in place of wedding bells!!! what is that about????? whos driving around the country like that anyway???? i miss wedding bells!!!!!! H.E.L.P!!!!!!!!!
What do you expect from FOX?
They cancel their good shows, like Wedding Bells, Justice, etc. Friday has NEVER been a good night for FOX, and they need to learn to STICK with a show, and let the audience come to it.
I think that you are making a very big mistake. You haven’t even given them a chance especailly since this is almost the time that nothing will be on TV except reruns. This a very cute, funny and refreshing show. I looked so forwarded to watching it and my husband even found himself laughing at it. Please bring it back.
I loved the show wedding bells. It was funny and it did not have a lot of sex and bad language. I especially loved both wedding singers and bells assistant.
I hope fox will bring the series back.
I can’t believe the Wedding Bells has been cancelled. What are the upper crust at Fox thinking? Clever, funny, yet, won’t even let the show run it’s remaining 3 episodes.
TV has gone down the “tubes”. Pun intended!
I absolutely can NOT believe this wonderful show is being cancelled !! Fox will keep crap shows on that show violence, sex and disrespect for just about everything, but keep a funny, witty, intelligent show that’s warm and entertaining? Just change the air date from Friday and give it another chance. We are NOT all stupid, illiterate morons who only want to watch drug, sex and killing every night.
I couldn’t wait to get home Friday evening to see my favorite show…wait! Where was it?! I agree with all that’s said about the violent shows that remain…blood and gore, killing, trashy sleeze…that’s what is WRONG with America!!!
Please don’t cancel WEDDING BELLS – we romantics (and the rest of the world) need some happy endings!!!
So sad. Can’t believe you cancelled this show. My husband the ‘crazy sports guy’ actually looked forward to it as much as I did. What is Fox thinking? You have great actors, great writers and a very interesting story line. Please put it back on! Thanks.
It’s like FOX plays some weird “shell” game. First they put a show on (with minimal fanfare), then they switch the night, then they yank it completely. It really is sad… The Wedding Bells was one of the only major network shows I was watching.
Please dont cancel this show, my husband and I love it! Fox, I had faith in yall after you kept Til Death, keep Wedding Bells too, please!
