Even though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.
Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.
According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.
It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”

Very disappointed that there won’t be a second season. Thought for sure they might have one. Especially with the way things were left hanging. A lot more things can be answered. Was a great series that my husband and I looked forward to watching.
I loved the series I couldn’t wait till the weekend from working my 15 shift to watched the show before bed. It’s constant drama and I love the history too. Please return with season 2 so I’m not left to wonder about whats instored for Elizabeth.
Very sad to hear there will not be a second season. Was looking forward to watching the next season possibly tilted The White Princess, since obviously Elizabeth is now the main character and her mother has taken the backseat role. Guess if there are novels I will just need to read those now. I really loved this miniseries and wish it would of continued. Great acting and wonderful/tragic story.
The White Queen is a wonderful typically British show that has a good story and great cast. I realize it was a BBC production and having watched a lot of great British shows, I have learned this is the way they operate. They make 6 episodes of a wonderful show and then two years later they make 6 more episodes. I think (but don’t know) that there might have been some push and pull between an American way of doing things and the BBC way of doing things. Why would you cancel a TV series that is so loved by its viewers I think you should really reconsider and give it a second series.
The way it ended I felt like elizabeth’s daughter was going to be the new queen. So many unanswered questions. Like did king Edwards son die or was he kidnapped
And would he return to his mother and reclaim the throne.
very upset that they wont be making a second season, I am obsessed with this show. Me, my sisters and a few of my friends looked forward to watching it every week. I really hope they change there mind and decide to continue with the show.
A very good series! One my husband and I actually looked forward to watching each week. We’re very sorry that there won’t be a continuation next season. Well produced and acted when there is so much junk on t.v. these days!

really, what is it with you Starz I love this show and it just picked up speed. What is wrong with your team. Why not try it again and don’t put it on Saturday, put it on Sunday night. Unbelievable, your programming team is the worst. Put it on for Season 2.
The White Queen was fantastic. To follow up with Phillipa Gregory to guide the screen writing could only create television worth watching. I will eagerly await any collaboration with Ms. Gregory.
I wish they would reconsider and make a Season 2. It was a very popular series. We taped it on our dvr so we wouldn’t miss an episode.
