The peacock network is dropping The Winner Is. After this week’s installment, NBC has decided to fill the game show’s Thursday night timeslot with reruns of America’s Got Talent and Hollywood Game Night.
Hosted by Nick Lachey, The Winner Is mixes the performance aspect of a singing competition with the strategy of a game show. Each episode, six acts compete for the chance to win a million dollar prize.
The TV series debuted in early June, airing out of The Voice. Despite the strong lead-in, it brought mediocre ratings; a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.3 million total viewers.
When Winner moved to Thursday nights, the ratings took a big nosedive. The latest episode drew a 1.0 in the demo and 4.29 million.
NBC had scheduled to air Winner for at least two more weeks but it’s unclear if this scheduling change will leave any unaired episodes left on the shelf or not.
Either way, it’s highly unlikely that The Winner Is will be back for a second season.
What do you think? Did you like The Winner Is TV series? Would you watch a second season?
I really enjoyed watching the show, and wish it was still on.
It was a decent game show, with the contestants singing more older songs that I knew of, in comparison to today’s modern music which doesn’t appeal to me.
I enjoyed it, but all in all, I agree with “Tha Critic”. Too many singing shows these days, between Idol, X Factor, The Voice, The Sing-off, and whatever else exists.
Burn-out. The singing competition show days are over in my book.
Loved the show and quick decisions. VERY sorry to hear it won’t be picked up for a second season. Best music show out there. Refreshing that we don’t have listen to junk singers. Give it another season.
I’ve gotten tired of all these singing shows.
