To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

~ I dont understand that they cancelled the show. I really like it and now they pull it off and know I would like to know what is going on and right in the middle of the story. You just cant do that its like not having the cream in the middle of the oreo cookie. I’m very pissed off that they pulled the show and it was not a good choice. Thank you very much for messing up my sunday nights. VERY VERY UPSET!!!!!!!!! AND I DO AGREE THAT I WILL NOT WATCH THIS NETWORK IF YOU KEEP ON… Read more »
I really enjoyed the show and have been looking for the rest of the shows. I hope that this show does not get cancelled. Three Rivers was the best new doctors show for this new season.
also bring back THE UNIT, WITHOUT A TRACE, THREE RIVERS, CROSSING JORDON, IF YOUR NETWORK KEEPS CANCELING THE GREAT PROGRAMS, I WILL NEVER WATCH YOUR NETWORK AGAIN
I really enjoyed this show. our whole family is sorry to see it canceled.
Three Rivers was one of the best shows on CBS. I would rather see first runs of that show than repeats of CSI Miami, NCIS or any other others they put in that time slot. I only watch shows on CBS so whatever they put on I’ve already seen. It really stinks.
I loved the show and am disapp0inted it is no longer being shown. I do hope that the powers that be give it another chance, possibly moving it earlier in the evening on
Sunday. or switching nights. Please give it another chance. Look what happened to Jag.
thank you
As a transplant coordinator, I found the show realistic and compelling – I for one, thought this would educate people on donation/transplantaion and inspire more to sign organ donor registries.
I think it was a tough time slot against Desperate Housewives – would sure like it to be given anther chance.
I really enjoyed the program! It gets frustrating that the deluge of reality shows can be so successful and yet a program about a the decisions and drama facing transplant patients today is not popular! Please, CBS for once don’t got with the flow and cancel the program. Try a slot in primetime on a weekday somehow. I know the programming already in place is really popular since I watch CBS regularly every day. I would just like a program be continued because of its message rather than ratings. Though the reality is viewership determines advertising and that means a… Read more »
I liked the show and find myself looking for the next episodes… I unfortunately have a job that makes shows after 9 pm hard for me to watch… I really think the football interferance/extensions hurt this program’s future just like many others… I myself set the DVR to record all the new shows and through much confusion and disappointment wound up with more of the Amazing Race and Cold Case than I really wanted. I think the network should try to premier shows that may have a chance on another day where NFL wouldn’t interfere!!!
I think it is truly sad that CBS is pulling this show. It aired one of the best, most emotionally and intellectually challenging hours of TV I have ever seen with “The Luckiest Man” episode. As the daughter of someone who battled ALS and used all his dignity to make the best of that death sentence, I was stunned by that episode. I am also a huge proponent of organ donation and truly hoped the show would spur others to give that last gift. As an NFL fan, I am certain that the time slot put the nails in Three… Read more »
I think this sucks!!! I really liked this show!! Sundays there is not alot on besides cold case which is another show I like to watch also. It just seams like every show you start watching these days and start enjoying there are just enough of those critic people with just enough money that what they want they get in life, and what us normal people like in the world well we just get it stuck up out a** I guess. There is not alot we can do these days anymore. The economy sucks!!!! You can leave a show on… Read more »
I loved Three Rivers and knew because it was a good hearted show, with good story lines that it probably wouldn’t stay on. It seems that good shows are always taken off way too early when all that is needed is for people to know about them. It wasn’t promoted very well but it was nice to see a medical drama that wasn’t about everyone sleeping with everyone else, but it was about kind hearted doctors helping patients. It was the kind of doctors I would want if I had some major health issue. If we could only have more… Read more »
I cannot believe the TV shows that are cancelled nowadays. The ones without alot of violence, the soft hearted shows like Mercy, Trauma, and Three Rivers are always the first to go. I love the CSI and Law and Order shows too, but sometimes I think they have even gotten carried away, not allowing for others to show a great show too. Then they have kept around the stupid cartoonish shows (Simpsons) – not sure why they were ever put on the air in the first place. I love Cold Case, I only wish it was on earlier. I have… Read more »
i love cold cold case. do not ever take it off the air
The problem was football…………the show was never on time and the DVR wouldn’t catch it…….I work in the industry and it was nice to see something positive contributing to the hard decision that donor families have to make. We need more people to donate and I thought this show would help increase visibility. Also……..bring back without a trace…….
Just do what I did.. record from 8pm until 1am on CBS. Never missed an ep!!!! That’s the ONLY way I can watch Cold Case. And while we’re at it, bring back The Unit. Another GREAT show..that was really coming into its own…and they cancel it!!!
