Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

LOVE THIS SHOW PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!
I love this show. I’m just finding it on Netflix and I can’t stop watching. My guess is they didn’t advertise it enough for it to be good in #s. This show is just awesome. It’s not the shows fault that the network can’t get it together.
NBC missed the mark by canceling this show. High energy, great cast and great story lines. It’s a shame no other network picked up the show. Put this back on the air!
I really enjoy watching such a true to life tv show. Trauma was the only running series I had the patients to watch and I really wish they would bring it back! I myself as an emt along with other classmates vote for season two!
I agree with all of the previous comments. Trauma was an outstanding show and one I looked forward to watching every week. I am extremely disappointed that is was cancelled. NBC this is why you do not have outstanding ratings, you don’t keep the best shows on. Sometimes they have to run a little while to catch on. Rectify your error please!
please hear us. we want season 2 of trauma. it is very helpful to all medical and nursing students like me. i hope you will hear us.
Was a very good medical show….very disappointed it was cancelled. Wish another network had picked it up!!!
Trauma is my favorite tv show, all my friends gather together to watch it…
what you did was stupid, you shouldn’t of cancelled such a good show
Trauma, great series!! Wish they’d make more!!!
We were wondering when the next season was going to start – This show gripped us from the very first episode. Love the cast and the story line. I don’t know where they got their #’s from but I think this is one of the best TV Series I’ve seen in a long time. We only watch movie channel series (Starz / Showtime / HBO) – This was the first TV network show that kept our attention long enough to look forward to the next episode. It’s amazing to me what the networks think are good shows and bad shows… Read more »
When NBC took off ER, I was very disappointed that there would be no new/good medical shows out there. However, when Trauma came along I was SUPER excited and I watched it religiously.. Mercy sucks in comparison to Trauma.. BRING TRAUMA BACK!!
Of course the real life and real events can’t be shown in a tv show, some wrong ideas and concepts as I am seeing paramedics and nurses complaining about what Trauma shows, but hello this is a tv show, that keep you in your seat until the last momen.
Great actors, amazing action, good stories.
So Please Bring Trauma back! We want more, greetings from Brazil.
love trauma !
bring it back.
Please bring back Trauma; i loved this show!!!
