Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I really enjoyed this show. It seems to me that the NBC is making a huge mistake. Why don’t you try another time slot. This was the one show I looked forward to watching every week. I really think it’s a shame when the persons who are able to rate the shows, have all the say. NBC, you really need to change your rules.
It’s bull that they can’t keep such a good show (now that they finally have one) on the air…
So Sorry this show is canceled…this was actually a new show I was watching and now they take it away…..Hopefully Mercy will be on for a while, being that I like that show as well…
I can’t believe they are cancelling Trauma – It is the first series show I have watched faithfully in years. Is there any way to keep it on even if it has to go to a different time slot? P L E A S E!
My husband and I loved Trauma and are very disappointed to hear that it has been canceled!
why do big networks put out new shows only to get you hooked then cut them so quickly.
I say enough with canceling good shows like trauma I wonder how we can force them to bring it back on the air can anybody have a suggestion?
I am totally disapointed in the canceling of the show. I loved it. I thought it was the the best series I have saw in a long time. We actually had people coming to our house to just watch it all together. Please bring it back!!! Rabbit was the man he made the show.
Cancel Heroes. That show jumped the shark two seasons ago. I am so sick of networks dropping shows that are ACTUALLY really good. Why don’t you put quality shows on TV and get away from the reality stuff. Trauma was an amazing story of the first responders. This past week’s show proves that! With Marissa talking down the helicopter vet! And Rabbit & his antics? Or Nancy & her tortured soul! Or Tyler & Boone?! This show is amazing. Shame on you NBC.
I like this show very much why did they put it at that time slot when their are shows that have ratings at the same time on other stations. Please change the time slot maybe it would have a better chance then.
Only good thing to watch on Mondays. Way to go NBC. Way to go.
Very dissapointed that Trauma was cancelled!!! Bring it back on air!!1
don’t cancell Trauma, I think you should give it a chance. A very good show.
NBC is going to lose all there viewers, the station is not thinking strait. first SOUTHLAND and now TRAUMA . if they dont bring TRAUMA back nexted season i wont watch any of there shows or better yet i will have the station blocked at my home so no one watches it. mercy sucks get rid of the show and keep TRAUMA . TNT will pick up all the viewers NBC lost with southland because the know a good show when they see it and NBC does not. all they do is keep show no one cares about. i hope… Read more »
I can’t even express how disappointed I am that NBC is cancelling this show. I missed the first few episodes, before discovering it after the play-offs / World Series; since then, I’ve caught up on the ones I missed, via NBC.com. If idiotic shows like “Dog The Bounty Hunter, Survivor, and The Biggest Loser” remain on TV, why can’t a show as exciting as “TRAUMA” continue? Personally, I rate it right up there with “The Good Wife, CSI Miami, Criminal Minds, The Closer, Law & Order SVU, and NCIS;” please NBC, give this show a chance–other viewers will soon discover… Read more »
What is Up with NBC.. this is the other side of ER.. this is what we did not see on ER.. Are They Crazy.. I want to see more medical shows like this because it did not focus on Lust, Sex, etc.. This focused on the Medical Side of things.. NBC is Stupid for Canceling this show.
Replacing it With Chuck is a worst option.. Can they not come up with another Medical Show.. Or something no one has seen.. IE When ER Premiered. OY NBC
