Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This show was the best. I lived for Monday! Why does NBC and other networks always take away the good shows keep the boring ones on. It is really hard to beleieve that the ratings were that bad they had to cancel it. I think it was more of a cut cost measure than a rating issue. I would imagine Trauma is proably more expensive to produce than a stupid un-reality show that is not really reality and it is all staged. Why bother putting these good shows on when they are only going to be yanked out. Very sad… Read more »
YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS!!!!I can’t believe it!!! This show has kept me glued since the first episode!!! This was actually a show that was worthy of watching, not to mention excellent actors!!!! this is very disappointing news!!! :/
This is one of the best shows my family and I have had to watch together in many years. By canceling it you will not achieve anything other than another boring hour of shows that the older generation will watch. ABC, NBC, and CBS have ENOUGH old people shows on from 10 am and 3 pm with “Days of Our Lives, Young and Restless, and many more” let us younger crowd enjoy this and bring it back!!!
I can’t beleive that this show is being cancelled. It seems to me that none of the stations give any of the new shows a chance. This show has it all.
How can they judge it from 3 shows.
WE ARE HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS SHOW WAS CANCELED I WILL NEVER WATCH TV AGAIN, YALL NEED TO PUT THE SHOW BACK ON AND READ HOW MANY VIEWINGS YALL WERE GETTING BECAUSE YALL OBVIOUSLY CAN NOT READ SO PUT THE SHOW BACK ON AND SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR SOME GLASSES
LOVE, YOUR MAMA
omg r u kidding me??? i love that show… me and my son in law who do not have much in common used to watch that show together every week. that sucks that its cancelled… and we didnt even know.. i finally did a search to see what happened to it and if it was the season ending or the end of it for good… they didnt even give us a heads up or anything. thats bull……… i love the show alot.
I do not think that Trauma should have been cancelled. I love it!! They should give it another chance.
I am so disappointed this show is cancelled 🙁 I looked forward to watching it every Monday. So they replace it with some dumb dancing show- Well guess what NBC….I am tuning into ABC or CBS for now on…My TV will NEVER be tuned to NBC.
I use to be a huge fan of ER, and when it was cancelled, I did not think I would find another show like it, until I discovered Trauma. I had something to look forward to every Monday night!! I thought it was an awesome show, full of excitement and always keep me on the edge of my seat. You guys are crazy to cancel this show. I dont think I will find something like this again. It should really be reconsidered!! I am very disappointed
We love this show. Please bring it back.
I don’t have time to watch t.v. but I always made time for Trauma. I am dissapointed that the show cancelled.
Why?????????????????????
I love this show. Love it!
They should have canceled something else.
Are you KIDDING ME?!?!?! This was the ONLY good show of the new lineup. I agree with Raymond….. whoever gave the rating stats to it’s network HAD to have gotten something wrong. VERY DISAPPOINTING. 🙁
ARe you kidding me?? Cancelled???? Im so upset with this news! This is the best medical show out there and comes being almost better then ER! I hope NBC rethinks this or another network picks it up!! WE LOVE TRAUMA!!!!!
Another fantastic medical show bites the dust. What is the matter with you networks. First CBS cancels Three Rivers and now NBC cancels Trauma. These were two of the best shows on TV in a long time. I suppose next will be Mercy if it hasn’t already been canceled. Lets get rid of those stupid half hour sit coms that aren’t even funny. I won’t even go to the reality shows. YUCK! You put something worth while on and then don’t promote it. All the networks have junk on Friday nights about something for those of us who stay home… Read more »
