Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I can’t believe they took Trauma off the air. I really loved the character Rabbit. They always take off the good shows and leave the crap on TV…like Modern Family, etc. Please!!!!!! Bring it back!!!
KEEP IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trauma is a great show
I would like to see the series continue. Thanks.
I’m going to boycott NBC. HOW ABOUT WE ALL JOIN IN! HOORAA
Sorry to say that i never ever really watched NBC…
i thought it was a lame excuse to compete with ABC…. But after watching Trauma and Lipstick Jungle, both of which got cancelled this year, i was like maybe NBC is not so bad….
SIKE!!!! After cancelling shows that could have really bought in rating for them i will probaly never watch NBC les they have a basketball game on for the Orlando Magic if not i won’t personally at all watch this lame ass excuse for a television company!!!
Monday use to be good to come home to, knowing that Trauma was going to be on. What in the world is NBC thinking… I would hope that they rethink there decision on this once more. In a bad market world , why stop something that was working.. And don’t say, ” Thats show business kid” hog wash in my opinion .. Rethink the decision, and listen to the people.
Trauma show was a complete and utter failure. I am a paramedic and have been for years, and can assure that the treatment they give and the way they act is completely off base. The show was just ridiculous and a COMPLETE JOKE. People on this who are EMTs and paramedics and the general viewers who believe they are learning something are just idiots. ESPECIALLY the medical people who think this show is cool, guarantee they are just toting granny home and DON’T work or never have worked any 911 system. Want to watch real life stuff? Watch discovery or… Read more »
Mike, get a grip, guy!! This is NOT the Discovery Channel…..it’s not meant to be reality. If we pulled stunts like the show characters, we be fired! This is supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT, not an EMS training video. I’m an RN/EMT. I watched ER and EMERGENCY (OK now you know how old I am) for entertainment, not education. If you don’t like the show. then don’t watch it. But allow the rest of us to be……..ENTERTAINED.
I am so NOT HAPPY that NBC cancelled Trauma. Unbelievable! Not only was it loaded with surprises, it teaches people how to react in case of a true emergency. I have watched every episode and always looked forward to Mondays because of it. PLEASE put it back on. We just got to know the crew well and you take them away. I thought the show would go for years. Bring it back and make America happy.
What the heck was NBC thinking? This was the best show that they have had in forever! The UNEXPECTED in the show was phenomenal! Our entire family watched it every Monday night. If we missed it, we would all watch it on HULU. THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE FOR NBC. Mercy has nothing on Trauma. It doesn’t even come close in the SURPRISE department. I can’t think of an episode that didn’t have us standing up from something UNEXPECTED!!! OUTSTANDING!!!!! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NBC!
ILOVE TRAUMA put it back on pleaseeee
i am so disappointed that trauma got canceled. that was all i used to do mondays after wrk go to hulu and watch it. i will miss it
I do believe this was a very bad idea to cancel Trauma. I, myself, am an EMT and I loved the fact that a network actually had an EMS show on. But why would you put 2 medical shows on at the same time? You guys would have known one or both would fail. I watched very single episode of Trauma and Three Rivers. I thought both shows were amazing. I did not miss an episode. I wish the networks would stop taking off great shows and leaving the crappy ones on. Enough with the reality shows already. Please put… Read more »
There are those in the public who look forward to watching these shows every time they come on. Maybe it is the drama itself that draws them to it, but to teasing the audience with previews of a show and then to just steal it away with no feedback from the audience first is outrageous! Why don
I am so disappointed that Trauma will not continue. I really looked forward to watching this great show. There are not to many shows that catch my attention but this one did. All the good shows go off the air and the ones with sex and violence stay on the air. What is the deal?
If Trauma continues I hope that it doesn’t change directions, because I use to watch “Grey’s Anatomy” and then I stopped because everyone was sleeping with everyone and other things that I could not morally get past.
