Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Is NBC crazy? Trauma was the only show I watched on their network. If Trauma is cancelled permanently, I’ll have no reason to tune in to NBC at all. The show has a great premise. Maybe they just need to market it better.
Finally a show that isn’t all about sex. And of course they cancel it! It’s no wonder we hate TV nites!
This is Typical… Finally as Show that is what I call a TRUE reality show. Not that the show is filmed in real life, but a show that is ABOUT Reality. This show has it’s medical flaws just like all medical shows out there, but it was the closest show out there to Reality when it comes to EMT and EMT Paramedics and Things that Really happen in REAL life. I’m scratching my head as to why they would cancel such a good (TRUE) reality series. Yeah, Lets watch some stupid show about a bachelor and a bunch of gold… Read more »
I love Trauma. I admit I was a little late in starting to watch the show. I had the whole season PVRed and just watched it over the holidays. I am really disappointed that it is cancelled because I really enjoyed it. I was just checking it out on the web when I found out about the cancellation. Why don’t they give shows a chance to find their audience.
Man that really pisses me off. I have really enjoyed watching the show. I hate that they take the good shows off the air and replace them with garbage. I also liked watching three rivers, but they took it off the air as well. I wish they would figure it out. So what if the ratings aren’t that great some of the other shows are worse but have good ratings. What a waste.
Who makes these decisions? Every year I find 2 or 3 shows that I love and they cancel them and keep on some stupid reality show. I watch both Mercy and Trauma and think they are both good. I knew as soon as I got hooked on Trauma it would be cancelled!!
Please bring back Trauma best show ever!!!!!!!!!!!
It started out a little slow, but I really started to get into it and couldn’t wait for the next episode. I can’t believe you cancelled it. I agree with people above. Reality shows, I don’t need some elses drama or nasty laundry. I miss Trama, bring it back.
THEY FINALLY HAVE A SHOW WITH THE ACTION AND DRAMA TO RIVAL ER,
AND THEY CANCEL IT !
BRING IT BACK,THIS SHOW ROCKS!
I loved this show and it was the highlight of my Monday. I am so bummed they canceled this show and air other stupid shows.
Please keep this show going
Please do not cancel Trauma! After ER was canceled last year, this was a wonderful medical drama for NBC!
Trauma was the best show I ever watched. It was the highlight of my monday. everyday i would read Amie Garcia’s blog and for that whole hour I was there was so much excitement running through my veins. Everyone who I have talked to loved the show it’s just a matter of more people watching it. Please Consider re-posting Trauma it is truly the best show in years.
I love Trauma – it was the best new show on this fall. Please reconsider and leave it on.
I loved Trauma I work every Monday nite and would tape it so I wouldn’t miss it or hurry home if I got out early just to watch it. It was the greatest I loved the unexpected excitement. Please bring it back…………
I do not think that most of those who watch these shows thinks that they are reality. In fact we watch thee shows for the exact opposite, to escape from the every day reality of our crazy, busy lives. We know this stuff isn’t real although to your defense Mike (EMT) there are probably those who do. But I work very hard all week and my brain is always on overdrive. Sometimes it’s nice to sit back and watch someone else’s craziness. And for me, I’d not wish these scenarios on anyone so I am happy it is fiction, but… Read more »
