Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I am truly disappointed taht Trauma is being cancelled. The show had a great cast, interesting characters and good story lines. Mercy should really be cancelled as the show is annoying. I did give Mercy a try of 4 episodes but can’t stomach it. The characters and storyline is so pathetic and irritating. They always get rid of the good shows and leave the crap!
I can,t believe you are canceling this show! I knew from the previews that I would love this show! my husband and I never missed an episode. I have never watched Mercy and I never will. PLEASE BRING BACK TRAUMA!!!
I loved Trauma I hope it comes back!!
I loved Trauma!!! C’mon, bring it back, try a different time slot if necessary!
why would you cancel this show. hitting #4 in a timeslot is good. the show is awesome. who gives a **** about ratings when at least you have a decent show on the channel for once.
I loved Trauma! Please bring it back!!! I never missed any show. Bring it back at a better time… It will do better…. GIVE IT A CHANCE!!
I loved Trauma and can not believe that it didn’t have the ratings to keep it on the air. Please bring it back!
I wondered what happened to the show. 🙁 I loved the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Cindy: NBC will be airing new episodes after the Olympics finishes.
Yay I LOVED Trauma – I really want to see it again – the Olympics don’t interest me a bit! lol
My husband and I really enjoyed this show. It was a little different than the other medical shows. It was so much better than Mercy. We do wish you would bring it back and let go of Mercy if needed.
Trauma was such a great replacement for ER-try a better time slot before you cancel it-
I enjoyed Trauma. Yes I am disappointed.
I enjoyed Trauma I could not believe that it got pulled since there are not allot of tv shows that interesting compared to some of the stupid shows. Please bring Trauma back !
PLS. BRING BACK TRAUMA..
what wrong with you people??
I really Liked the show!!! Very diverse cast!! Maybe if the network experimented a little bit and moved it to a a different day or time it would have gotten more ratings. I really enjoyed the show and wished it was still on!!!
I loved Trauma, Mercy is ok, but just because i was raised in jersey city. As an urban paramedic currently working in the streets of south Florida, Im telling you this was actually a very good show, just had to give it some time for the word to get around. Not much advertising. Give it another chance…
This was one of the best, realistic medical/drama shows on TV. Mercy is a hybrid between Scrubs and Nurse Jackie. This is the second TV show that NBC decided to cancel that was realistic. The other was Southland. Keep it up NBC and you will not have any viwers, except I guess your biggest hit, aptly named The Biggest Loser!!!
