Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I enjoyed the show. I was living at the YMCA for two months, and I did not have access to a television. Once I had my new apartment in november, I started watching Trauma. I enjoyed it. Please don’t cancel it.
I was just getting into this show and find out it is now cancelled. Does anybody at NBC know what they are doing?
I loved this show, and it was one of the few I looked foward to watching during the week, I sincerely hope they bring it back. Being in the medical field myself, I always looked foward to what they were going to come across in the show. And most of the things that happened were something that could happen in real life on an ambulance and the cast was great. PLEASE bring it back.!!!!
I really, really looked forward each week to watch Trauma. It’s too bad it got cancelled.
loved, loved loved TRAUMA
I loved trauma, it reminded me of ER in a way. I can’t believe it’s been canceled, maybe they should have just tried moving it to a different day, there are just so many good shows on Mondays.
WHAT!!!!! I LOVED this show…they need to bring it BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was wondering why when i sat down to watch it it never came on then they next week and so on same thing
NBC has a proud tradition of making bad decisions and canceling shows before they reach their full potential. Hopefully one of the smarter networks will pick up the show.
I can’t believe they canceled. I’ve been waiting for it to come back on so I googled when the next season was starting and now i find this!? I loved this show!
Trauma is one of 2 new shows that I watch every week. I sincerely hope that it continues to be on the air. The cast is great and so is the story line. Give it life.
I loved this show and the characters in it!!!! I am very disappointed that it may not be coming back. Please don’t cxl it. This is one of very few shows that I looked forward to.
I LOVED this show; thought it would be back after the holidays, but NO!! PLEASE DON’T take it off; it is SO good.
I used to watch 3rd watch and I loved it! I also love trauma and I can’t believe they are thinking of canceling! Please don’t cancel! There aren’t many shows I like on tv but this one I do. Don’t cancel!
I really like Trama I thought the TV show was very good, every episode was full of action not like your regular medical show. Know Monday nights aren’t the same…lol
Leave it to NBC to “screw up another one!” They cancel good shows, leave the crap, and can’t even decide what to do with Leno and O’Brien. They need to get their act together and (perhaps) hire someone from CBS to run the network before they go down the tubes entirely.
I was rocked with the first episode, so much so I had dreams of the helicopter crash, wow!
TV has never been this intense…
Riding the razors edge of excitement like no there show out there…
Come on NBC keep the show on & keep it hot…
