Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

LOVED this show….i am definately very disapointed.
I am very disappointed!!I loved Trauma!!What a great show!!They need to bring it back!!!!
I thought that Trauma was a great show. I was looking for something to replace my ER that ended and thought it was doing a really good job at keeping me interested. I’m very disappointed it will be cancelled.
I think Trauma should be kept because it is a great show. I am still disappointed with CBS for canceling Rescue 911, that was narrated by William Shatner. That show saved lives. Trauma could do the same.
I can’t believe the best show’s are cancelled! What was NBC thinking! Trauma always made me want to watch the next episode right away…not next week! I couldn’t wait that long! My husband, whom is in EMS, really liked the show. He said it was really close to being right on the money for being real. The actors were great and I really liked the story line. I know several shows NBC should cancel and bring Trauma back on a different night!
I really loved Trauma. I agree with many of the rest of the comment’s, most of the TV shows that are on T.V. now are stupid.
Trauma had great actors and actresses. The show held my interest always and I always looked forward to the next episode it’s a shame that some of the really good shows are cancelled and some of the mediocre shows are kept! I also agree that NBC is known for cancelling some of the best shows around! I am very disappointed!!
just show how stupid the network is, they don’t care what the people want. just like the government!
I am disappointed that Trauma is being cancelled. I also agree that it is a shame, that good shows get canceled. And medicor shows get kept. I am disappointed that the friday night show Las Vegas was canceled. Then again it did start going down hill, when Tom Selleck took over as head of the Montecito Casino. Selleck is a good actor, but he didn’t play his role as well as James Caan did. Still Trauma should not be canceled. I think it was doing really well, now NBC is pissing it away.
I am really dissappointed this show was cancelled…..Mercy made it, which I also watch, but it is not nearly as good.
I loved this show…very disappointed!! I may cancel NBC on my tv.
I loved Trauma – great actors and actresses. show held my interest always and I always looked forward to the next episode – a shame that some of the really good shows are cancelled and some of the mediocre shows are kept!
They always take the best and most interesting shows off the air. That is why I do not watch nbc anymore. They get you interested and they pull the plug.
This was a great show, they need to bring it back. If not, I hope that TNT picks up on it like they did for Southland! NBC sucks for cancelling some of the best shows around!
NBC does cancel the best shows and will keep some of the worst shows on the air. I loved Trauma and I would like to see TNT pick it up. I think Mercy is really a good show too. The whole Leno in prime time was a big fiasco.
Trauma is a good show, they need To bring it back!!!
I LOVE THE NBC SERIES TRAUMA WHICH KEPT ME AND MY CHILDREN SO GLUDED TO THE TV. I ALSO KNOW THAT THIS A
GREAT REPLACEMENT TO ER,BECAUSE IT HAS SO MUCH DEPTH,REAL WORKINGS,AND MUCH HUMOR TO THE SERIES.
PLEASE PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE SHOW BECAUSE WITHOUT
IT THERE IS NO SHOW THAT I LIKE OR ANYTHNG ELSE.
Man you all suck for taking this show off the air! It was riveting, amazing, and always different. Great story behind the characters! I watched the whole first season and was enthralled when I found out the show was being cancelled! I love the action of the stories behind each case. I was a huge fan of ER and haven’t been so enthused about another show in that genre of TV until TRAUMA came on and I think if you gave it one more season you would have seen it was worth saving!!! So to all that made the decision… Read more »
